Dyckias are "succulent" bromeliads and can be grown much the same way. They take full sun, like regular water and fertilizer in the growing season, like heat (although many are tolerant of light frosts), like a dry winter.
They are related to the other "desert" bromeliads, Puyas and Hechtias.

They form colonies or "mats" of many plants over time, some reproduce faster than others, marnier-lapostollei is a S-L-O-W reproducer compared to many other Dyckias.

Bihai is correct; let me emphasize that Dyckias do like plenty of water, and unlike most bromeliads they appreciate fertilizer.

In case it interests you, most Dyckias come from an area in notheastern Brazil called the Caatinga, which is dry most of the year.

No! The dyckias that come from de caatinga (white wood in native indian language) are just a very few. The majority comes from the Cerrado, the higlands of central Brazil. But and even so the three southermost brazilian states have more dyckias species tham any other region. The west part of the country has been the new source of new species. There they seem to be plenty in novelties. In my state, Santa Catarina we have 13 species but I just discoverd a brand new one. It is a yellow flowered one and seems much like many green narrow ribbons tied altogether. Up to now we just found one divided plant. We will collect seeds to save the species.
This old fashion idea of dyckias coming from the caatinga is an outpour from very ancient papers that do not translate the true. We will discover many new species and these brand new ones will all be endangered and some will be just a single one plant. We destroyed much of our wilderness and now we are burning down the amazonian forest to rear cattle to produce cheap meat to the american and european people to feed on. Every thing you consume must be checked. Our plants and animals live in this region. You may be thousands of kilometers away but you may be the very reason for the burning. You should see it to believe. Clourfull macaws screeming with no branch to built its nest. Love my dyckias and do not consume suspicious brazilian meat or wood. Help the dyckias, our macaws, our monkeys. Every time you munch on our meat you help to destroy the Amazonia and the Cerrado from where the majority of the dyckias comes from. Earth is a tiny place! This spaceship needs u to help to guide our best to a safe place. Education is the only way to transform, to get better.
