Hi aroideana, I found the typical Dyckia marnier-lapostollei is a kind of self-sterile plant, so they need another plants for successful pollination. In my collection, I noticed that after the petals's blooming, the pollens will ready on the first to the second day, mostly from 10.00 am to 16.00 pm as a yellow-dust appearance. The stigma will ready for pollinating on the late of day 2 or 3. In the case of crossing hybrid, I expose the stigma by cut off the petals and anthers before they form dusty. The pollination could be done many times between 10.00 till evening. The first day flower was on the left, pollens were not ready, while the lower right was the 2nd day flower with dusty pollens. You may notice the best "Pollinator" the tiny black ants. They crawled around between blooming plants. A good result, isn't it ?...(^_~)

Hi hdd Yes,I've read that here on gw before,but its safe when you see the photo of 'the one-and-only plant' that you will receive,as pictured on his site. So I know what I'll get,and if the price is right,its a 'go'. I like the spiney broms he sells, tho'rough'looking at times,because they get dug up,and come straight from Mexico to L.A.,to me. The nothogeneric name of a trigeneric hybrid is either (a) a condensed formula in which the three names adopted for the parental genera are combined into a single word not exceeding eight syllables, using the whole or first part of one, followed by the whole or any part of another, followed by the whole or last part of the third (but not the whole of all three) and, optionally, one or two connecting vowels, or (b) a name formed like that of a nothogenus derived from four or more genera, i.e., from a personal name to which is added the termination -ara. Okay, so what does this mean? A "nothogenus" is what you would call the name for a multigeneric hybrid, like xNeomea or xGuzvriesia. So, according to this, for a trigeneric you can either combine parts of all three genus names OR, if that seems too unwieldy (i.e. they don't combine well, or it's confusing, or more than eight syllables), you can do what they recommend for a hybrid of four or more genera, which is to create an entirely new name using the surname of some appropriate person and adding -ara to it. So for a cross between xQuesistrum and Aechmea, I'm thinking xQuesistrumea would be the easiest, and still under eight syllables. For the xQuesistrum x xNeomea, you'd have to create a new name. What is your last name, Yong? I don't know if you're allowed to use that, but I don't see why not. You are "a collector, grower, or student of the group", aren't you? That's good enough for me! So let's say Chanin crosses his xDyckcohnia with a Hechtia. He could presumeably call it a xDyckcohnechtia or maybe a xHectdyckcohnia or something along those lines, OR perhaps he could be the first to register a xThorutara!
