Since the kids aren't getting together for a Thanksgiving dinner, we won't be going up north until Christmas... It looks like we're staying in the area and going out to dinner with our friends here... I believe we'll be hitting a Chinese Buffet, complete with turkey and all the trimmings for those who prefer traditional food... and for those who like to live a little... there are oysters on the half shell, crawfish, squid, frog legs, 6 kinds of shrimp and all the crab legs you can stuff yourself with! This particular buffet is rather fancy, and has quite a wide seafood assortment.

It won't be the same without the kids, but we still have a lot to be thankful for...

Sounds wonderful! I am roasting a turkey, making stuffing, mashed potatoes with turkey gravy, a Waldorf salad, and yams or sweet potato casserole and green beans. Pumpkin pie and softly whipped cream for afters. Of course, wine and beer are served.

Thanks goodness both Dennis and Dan are big eaters. My problem is I nibble all day while I am cooking...well someone has to keep checking the stuffing!!!

I have no idea what's for Thanksgiving dinner. We just got invited to go up to my brother in law in WV and then to Baltimore to my brother's place after that. I know I will be bringing "Lumpia" (Filipino Eggroll) for everybody and an Alfresco and Rozetta for both my sister in laws.

The girls are asking me if we can have Thanksgiving dinner in Chuck E. Cheese...lol!

Now, it seems like, a whole bunch of people are coming over to our place, because they outgrown theirs... So the party is coming to me. With the turkey.

Hehe. It would be funny if I walked around the table taking pictures of food with 10 people and two Schnauzers around. :o)

We will have a quiet one this year. My husband's last living relative (aside from me, that is), his little sister, died unexpectedly around thanksgiving last year. His father died just the year before, so it will be a difficult time for him. All of my family lives in the Netherlands and Australia, but I did not grow up celebrating thanksgiving, so I do not really miss my family all that much for this particular holiday. In any case, we will make it a quiet one this year, just the two of us. I do intend to make the full deal - I love to cook, so it will be the traditional turkey with stuffing, yams, mashed potatoes with gravy, cranberry sauce, green beans, pumpkin pie and whipped cream. It will take us a while to make it through it all, but we look forward to the leftovers almost as much: first a great big shepherd's pie, then turkey curry with whatever turkey is left over.

Candee, I tried to email you to see if you would mind sharing your recipe for sour cream mashed potatoes, but I am not sure if my attempt worked. I THINK I used the "email this post" link on your post, but I am new to this forum (any forum, for that matter) and I am not sure how exactly that works.

In any case, don't forget to count your blessings, and a very happy thanksgiving all.

Pies are done! So is the stuffing. Dennis wanted to know how he was going to sleep with the rich spicy smells all through the house. I told him "Dream of Pies"!

wildebloem-my thoughts go out to your husband. This time of year is hard for a lot of us who have lost loved ones. Email does not go through on Garden web. The mashed potatoes are very simple. Just prepare them as you normally would, whipping in butter, salt, pepper, milk or cream. Then I add a couple dollops of sour cream to them, and beat this in. They are really good if you whip in some chives too. They have a really creamy consistency. Have a Happy Day tomorrow!

I migh bake some Butternut Squash for after dinner. I like them a la nature just the baked meat of the pumpkin...

Does anyone make the green bean casserole? Or use the little marshmallows when making candied yams? Those are two must-haves when we make a traditional Holiday dinner!

No to either of those. I do not care for yams, but the guys love carrots so I make glazed carrots for them. I've gotten away from the green beans, too boring for me. This year I am making the cranberry fluff with mini marshmallows. I wanted something sweet and cool to serve with the turkey.

Same here concerning the green bean casserole. Too common after so many years and I never really liked it that much, anyway. Yams or sweet potatoes, yes; but not always with the little marshmallows. Sometimes I do a tropical dish with pineapple and a bit of coconut in them, with some butter and a touch of brown sugar. It seems to go over well, and is a bit different than the marshmallow overload!

But always sage and onion dressing; that never changes, and of course homemade gravy and cranberry sauce!

My kids always insist on green bean casserole and yams with mini-marshmallows! My favorite stuffing is one a dear friend makes... with chestnuts and sausage... it's delicious! Larry will only eat StoveTop... yuck!

Yummy-I love pecan Pie, I debated making one for Thanksgiving, but decided to make 2 pumpkin pies instead. Well, garvy is boiling, potatoes are bubbling, carrots are in the oven and cranberry fluff is chilling. The turkey breasts are going in circles on the rotisserie and I am HUNGRY!
