Aunt lou - no joke, that baby was four feet tall. However, Franz Shubert, which is a beauty too, is about 2 1/2 feet and my Harlequin is barely growing! I think that Nora Leigh is a very hardy cultivar. The only pruning I did on the Nora Leigh was to thin out a few stalks so that there would be better air circulation through the plant. Doesn't look like I did though. All of my Phlox is growing in a location of full sun and tons of wind (NW exposure). It is also drier than what I've read is recommended for Phlox paniculata. But they are thriving and none of them had any mildew. I plan to add a "David" and also the native species to the garden as well. That becky Towe sounds beautiful too. I love Phlox paniculata!

If 'Peppermint Twist' returns to its original state which would be 'Candy Floss', reversion would be the proper term. Some mutations/sports have a tendency to not be completely stable and do revert back to their original state. This is often seen with variegated plants. You need to cull out the original non-variegated part because it will over take the sport and you will be left with nothing but the original version. 'Peppermint Twist' being a variegated flower sport could easily be doing that. Now some sports being genetically unstable will throw off more new sports as with the chrysanthemum example above (I've seen this with roses also) that are not like the original cultivar. Then the term reversion would not be proper. Remy Remy

Several years ago, a white with lavender/rose center flower came up along side my Phlox David. I've seen pictures of Phlox Delta Snow and this looks exactly like it. I separated it from my clump of David and have been growing it in it's own spot for 5 years now. I had thought it might be a seedling from David, but it seems more likely that it's a "sport." Any seedlings from David and my other garden phlox varieties are a pinkish purple, and all look the same. I also have a seedling here from Eva Cullum that is a bright lipsick pink. It's in it's own area of the garden and has grown well over the years. Neither of these plants has variegated leaves though. Linda

I have coral flame which seems like it falls into the height range you are looking for, but I suspect you want a deeper red. I don't know if all the flame series are the same height... I just bought light pink flame and it seems slightly taller in the pot. I hope I stays that way but the label does read 18 inches so I'll have to wait and see. Lord Clayton is on my list. I might already have it as an unlabeled plant but maybe having another would confirm that :) I'm into red lately.
