Please...please give me advice

I planted a 72 cell pack of tropical seeds. I was waiting for the stores to get in there plastic domes as I did not have any left. While I was waiting I decided to plant the seeds anyway and had been misting the seeds for the past two weeks with what I believed was water. You know...in a hurry...don't read my own HAND WRITTEN label! Here I find out I've been spraying these poor seeds with alcohol, detergent, bleach mixed with water. I use this mix to kill aphids and spider mites...waaaaaaaaaa

Did I damage my seeds so they will not sprout? Nothing has come up in that container yet.

TJ I am so sorry and I have no idea what you did to your seeds. I do hope they will still sprout but I am giggling here because if they come up they most likely be alcohol dependend roflmao

Sorry but that was just a funny thought I just had.

What kind of seeds are they? Maybe that makes a difference also?

Some people use bleach, alcohol, & detergent as a disinfectant. If you're concerned about using your mixture - water thoroughly & hope for the best! Two weeks is quite a long time to be spraying them with your mix. As you said - you were only misting! The seeds are possibly all right! Give then some time!

Hi Mona, Yes you should dry them at least for a few days. I harvest them as the pods begin to split. I empty the seeds into a paper envelope right away with either the paper tag or wire I used to mark the cross. I dry mine for a week or two, and then put them in small ziploc bacs and mark the cross on the front. Then they co into the refridgerator in the basement until planting time. I started using 20 oz cups with 4 holes melted around the bottom, but not on the bottom with a hot wood burning tool. I can do a bunch of cups out at the picnic table in about a half hour. I will plant 3 to 6 seeds per cup and they are good in the cups until transplanting. I use Miracle Grow potting soil because it works for me and has a time release fertilizer that seems to kick in about the time the seedlings need it. I tried seed starting mixes, but didn't like them. I will probably stop starting seeds in cups and pots in the near future. After visiting Curt Hansons a few weeks ago, I think he is probably doing it the most efficient way. He direct sows the seed in November, and they stay in the bed for a year or two. Here are pics. Its plant them and forget them, except for an occasional weeding and watering. This years seedlings. To the right are last years, and the left the year before. Lined out seedlings behind them. I will be asking him more questions about how he works the system when I go over there again. Its hard to argue with success, I have the room at a friends around the corner from here, we began putting in the new beds last fall.

WHAT?!?!?! You changed your vote?!? You were my only saving grace! I just got a call from the granite guy and he way upped the charge on black galaxy...which ultimately made my decision very easy for me. I thought to myself " well...boxerpups had some really good points about tan brown... More warm,etc....". And now you come back with these pics that make me want to cry?!?? Oh I'm just teasing. But seriously though, the BG is too expensive for me so TB it is. Though I don't think that last pic is black galaxy. It looks more like tan brown. I can't wait to post my finished pics. Thanks for all your advice.

Marcy96- The main reason I decided against the tumbled and travertine was the possibility of it turning pinkish. To answer your question, we were very lucky when it came to removing the tiles. The installer was someone who my husband saw previous work and then he in turn recommened him for three jobs. (My husband owns and manages real estate.) When it came time for him to install ours,he did a great job. But the color looked terrible. The white tiles took on a gray cast. MY DH agreed and saw how upset I was. It was removed for free!It really was not messy. However, this leaves you with a compromised wall that has the sheetrock ripped off. You now no longer have the option to paint it and wait. You are left with an awful looking carboard wall! I don't know why we couldn't replace the sheetrock, my DH was against that. So, now I am waiting for the installer to come back and put my new tiles in. Just hoping it will be acceptable. tbosshar: Trust me, if my tiles come out half as good as yours, I will consider myself lucky.

Don’t wait to make the changes it will take to age in place. We have a four bedroom 3 bath home that is beautiful. I renovated my kitchen in 2013 and to this day truly love it. Our home has some design issues but it’s on 3 1/2 wooded acres and we love the quiet vacation like atmosphere of ours woods. This February my dear husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. He has already had one incidence on the stairs plus we have a total of 3 sets of French doors, and one triple slider on the main level. On the lower level we have a double slider, a main front door, an end door and the garage door. Needless to say the opportunity for wandering out of one of those doors unnoticed is high.Thankfully we also have an all brick 3 bedroom, 2 bath rancher that I purchased basically as an insurance policy in case we weren’t able to age in place as planned. We waited too long to make the move because his AD has advanced so rapidly that he went from being totally independent in the early summer to needing 24 hour oversight by the end of the year. Now I have to take care of everything involved in making the move which is significant after living here for 24 years. I’m totally capable of being responsible for the move but had we done it sooner I could have counted on his input into the value of his tools, machinery, and vehicles. So my best advice is to take the bull by the horns early and make the change into an “aging in place“ friendly home or make your current home “aging in place friendly’. It’s later than you realize.

Thanks all. Lucy you are a hoot...made me laugh. They are all adenium seeds. Normally I bottom water all my seeds, but I did not have a tray and was using a large tote lid which would not allow for bottom watering. I guess time will tell.

I appreciate all the support. I now have a tray and my dome lid and can begin bottom watering when needed.

By the way...if these don't sprout soon...I may become alcohol dependent!

Ouch and double crapola...After the extensive research I have done on these seeds. I have found they need wet soil for the first three days. You were only misting? I would drench the soil with water and see what happens. Make sure you use a dome and heat. I have had decent germination on mine some did not come up but that is to be expected. Linda how are yours doing? Eloise is your soil wet too? I know you are trying outside. They should be soaked prior to planting too.....This is what I have learned about them...Tj I will see what I have left after my RR'S They are mixes though and not named just pictuers of the mixes. I do have double plants but they are slow growers. They come up and just sit there. I have ones I did a fewmonths ago and they are still the same size...Weather? No sunlight and not under lights....If they get bigger maybe in summer I can send you some of my doubles...Barb

I haven't planted mine yet, I've been too busy worrying about my cold porch. Still haven't got my other seeds.

I would dig them up if you can find them & replant in fresh soil to get them out of the chemicals. Or at least rinse it very well if you can't find them. Hope it works.

I keep the soil pretty moist for adeniums until they sprout and even afterwards until they get a set of true leaves. After that I transplant them and cut back a bit on watering. Hopefully they are still viable and you should have some clean soil! lol
