No. There is no difference at all. But do incorporate a bit of bulb food, not bonemeal; to your soil at the time of planting. Mix it in well with the soil before planting. Bonemeal tends to attract critters who can dig up the garden. Don't go wild; follow the directions on your food packaging. Then, when the bulbs start to flower, add a bit more to sustain and nourish the bulb; and once again at the end of the flowering season. This encourages a healthy, plump, and well-fed bulb for next year's flowering.

Thanks for the comments. The season is quite short in Hong Kong - March, April, May, then 9 months of nothing, so it's very exciting to see the scapes pushing up again. There are the same ones from last year that I hope will flower again and one or two new ones I'm looking forward to. One of these is San Remo x Apple Blossom - one bulb now has a bud. Apple Blossom is very hard or even impossible to pollinate, it seems, but San Remo proved to be a successful host for Apple Blossom pollen. Since the flowers look similar, I'm hoping that the hybrid will look something like an intermediate between them, but you never know. The other is a Benfica x Dancing Queen hybrid which was pollinated again by Dancing Queen. Will this second generation hybrid look more like Dancing Queen than the first rather indistinguished red hybrid? We'll soon find out. I'll try to put the parents in the photos too, seed host on top and pollen donor ont he bottom, like the one below, if I have time. It's taking me rather a long time doing this with Picasa, but I hope it can get a bit quicker with practice.

Very pretty..I love them when they get their final curves as they look totally different than when they first open. Anna.. I have myself and two others waiting for these seeds and I will gladly add you to the list too! There is no guarantee with these but the pods are progressing albiet very slowly as it so much cooler now and they aren't getting nearly as much sun as before. Hubby covers them with a trash barrel at my request if the nights get too cold but it's a toss up as to whether they will fully mature. I certainly hope so as I have been trying in vain to get seeds on both Party Animal & Party Pooper for several years now..If the weather gets too cold and stays that way I may have hubby dig the whole double bulb up with a huge root ball and plop in a pot until the seedpods hopefully mature... I find in coastal southern New England winter starts a lot later then everyone seems to think. Everyone schedules stuff for the summer, and activities/festivals grind to a halt when September 1 hits even though 90F days are more common then Snow in September. The inevitable September heat wave always surprises everyone. Everyone goes into full-on winter wonderland mode in November (or late October)...but most of the serious snow around Boston and Rhode Island comes in January or February. Generally people get sick of the winter wonderland stuff before REAL winter hits most years. We have this image (conjured by Christmas cards and the traumatic memories of a few bad winters) of the ground being continuously covered in snow all winter, but that is rarely the case around Boston or Rhode Island. Late Summer: Beach Season, Music Festival Season, Summer Vacation, mosquitoes, miserable heat waves in the city. People go into gardening mode even though it is a terrible time to plant trees. Early Fall: People go into mourning, cancel social events, and wait, terrified of impending snow while sweating in heat waves. School starts. Lecture Season. People should be planting trees and bulbs but don't. Late Fall/Early Winter: People realize it isn't terrible, come out of their holes, and start scheduling stuff. People have forgotten how to deal with snow so overreact to any that occurs. Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas blitz. Late Winter: Real Snow storms hit when people finally think it isn't going to happen this year. People are sick of snow. Oddly they schedule more stuff then in the balmy days of early Fall. They feel like old pros where snow is concerned. Early Spring: Occasional snow storms confuse people. Mud Season. Late Spring/Early Summer: Great weather when it isn't raining. Mosquitoes. Mother's Day/Father's Day/Graduation Season. People start planting trees, shrubs, and bulbs way too late.
