Tell me your favorite house plant!!!
Comments (38)I had to think about this a while, as I have quite a variety. In the end, though, the winner is one of the most common and easiest to grow - Syngoniums. I like the new Allusion series. I have Plum Allusion and Neon Tetra. The Neon Tetra is bright pink and the Plum Allusion is, well. . . plum colored! I also love my Fire Flash spider, Bonnie spider and classical spider a lot. My Gold Dust dracaena is just stunning. And of the orchids, the paphs are my favorites....See MoreWhat's your favorite thing to plant in your pots/containers?
Comments (21)CMK, that is interesting about eggplant liking pots. I started planting a salad garden in pots and window boxes on my back deck a few years ago. I didn't really think about eggplant though. I'll have to try it this year. I find that leaf lettuce does very well in window boxes. I also grow baby cukes in pots and let them trail down the deck railings. I've also done peppers and tomatoes in pots. I mix in a few small pots of nicotiana (not near the tomatoes...does that really cause problems?? i've heard they should not be combined) so the hummingbirds come to feed. Woodyoak, how deep are the windowboxes you use to grow carrots? And which carrots do you choose to grow in them? I've been seeing more pictures of large pots in amongst plants in the garden and I think I may try to experiment more with that. Does anyone have pictures of pots fully incorporated into their perennial/shrub borders as a focal point? Also, does everyone in wintry climates bring their pots inside in the winter? Has anyone found a type of pot that does not crack with the freeze/thaw cycles of winter?...See MoreWhat's your favorite potted plant for the front porch?
Comments (18)Lou, didn't mean to bother you. I should have thought through the many equally valuable cultural differences in this beautiful land of ours and prefaced my question with "To those of you with a front porch on your house that's big enough to hold a potted plant, meaning no disrespect to those of you without a front porch or with a front porch that is not big enough to hold more than the cat's dish". In my hurried self-centeredness I didn't even consider the feelings of the good people who live in the puckerbush who have no sidewalks or curbs nor noticeable front porches. No harm was meant by this honest mistake. I do hope, however, that my error has served a higher purpose, which is to put you closer in touch with your hermit roots and the values of puckerbush life. Peace. Stuartwanda, annuals would be at the bottom of my list, but since the list is so short, they may be my second choice. Comments (13)Some gorgeous floors shown above. I actually love all the floors in our home except the carpet in the bedrooms. That will some day be replaced with hardwood, but with all the other floors (hardwood, marble and ceramic tile) that needed to be installed, by my hubby, he wanted a break and had carpet installed. I guess the pattern and the veining on this marble combo would be my favorite. More so because it was one of those happy surprises that come from a goof. The was the first flooring we'd purchased and didn't think to buy extra. We knew better, just didn't do it. HoDe was out of the premixed mortar that hubby had used for other tiles he'd laid and was happy with, so I talked him into mixing his own. How hard could it be, right? Well we heard later that the type we chose is even a bit tough for the pros to always get right. Some of the tiles loosened and broke when walked on. We searched high and low for matching marble to no avail. Then I saw the darker tile at Lowe's and thought we should take some home and see if in our lighting they worked well together. Hubby wanted to just replace them all, but once we found a way to lay them out, after he carefully removed the original tiles, he loved it. Here it is.... Click Photo to Enlarge...See Morepizzapatti
