I would say that no.8, though beautiful, is not an Ipomaea unfortunately but a pernicious perennial weed, Calystegia sepium. The absolutely worst weed I have in my garden. Follow the stems down and you will find long white roots which will run for miles and break if you try to pull them. Every piece will regrow. Here is a link that might be useful: Hedge bindweed

Jane-Hubbles Buddy was a bonus I got to choose from a list. I had no idea what it looked like, but liked the name. I'm glad I did! We are still cool with rain for 3 days, then warm up. Ellie-The only things opening all the way are spiders and ufs cuz it's been cool and cloudy here for days. The ufs don't curl and crispate, or whatever they choose to do until afternoon when it is warmest.It's interesting to see the difference in form and color with the temps. Betsy

Chris: INCA PUZZLE has 10 fans and SUMMERTIME IDYLL has only 6. And I bought these as double fans in 2009. I have to say though I think SI would have done better if I put it in a spot where it had more room from the beginning. Hopefully moving it will improve the increase. Debra: RED SLEEVED WARRIOR is really shining this year. I got this from Curt in 2010 and now it is hitting its stride. I think the last couple of rainfalls we've gotten really helped. LG, I do grow all my MG's together. I have a 30 foot chain-link, (cyclone), fence that I erected solely for that purpose and also an 8' X 8' lattice area near my pond. I'm not too worried about cross-breeding; supposedly it's difficult to cross species, (and if they do produce hybrids, who knows what kind of glorious mess I might get), and I buy new seeds of the common varieties each spring, (Heavenly Blues, Pearly Gates, Flying Saucers)... I googled "Ipomoea grandiflora" for kicks and it seems that the name may be synomonous with I. violacea... http://www.ncbi.org.in/biota/flora/Top/combine.jsp?op1=contains&t1=IPOMOEA%20GRANDIFLORA&epi=Epithet&scidnext=0amp;totalsci=0amp;cnt=0 I just signed up for a "Photobucket" account and have uploaded a photo of my unknown species. If anyone can assist with an ID I would be greatful. The plant has palmate leaves and orange red seeds. The flowers are about 1" across and are light lavender, (sorry about the poor color in the image, but I took the shot in deep shade). I'll upload more images of my MG's soon... You're canna blooms are huge. Mine are kind of skinny. Do you get the hummers coming to them? You have a nice variety of flowers.

bev2009 yes I get alot of hummers to almost all of the flowers they love the cannas and the red cardinal flowers and visit the zinnias to see if they can get a bite or two. It is funny watching them fight over the hummer feeders as well. They "guard" the red cardinal flower.

Your cannas are very pretty. I'd like to try some next year. They used to grow year round where I used to live, but now that I'm in the north, I'll have to be digging them up every fall. Oh well... they're gorgeous!

Paula, in your second picture I noticed a long seed head just to the left of your bird bath that leans toward the bird bath. I have a simular plant that I've been trying to ID. Can you tell me what that plant is? Thanks, Connie.

paula - gorgeous canna flower!! Thanks for sharing. Do you know the cultivar name? I WS 'King Humbert' seeds from a trade this year and got a gorgeous plant that's 4 ft. tall at present. Looks like it may bloom too. I'll WS seeds again after seeing how well they do. I've had this much luck ( ) lifting the rhizomes & overwintering them. Garage is too cold, cellar too hot (woodstove) & attic not cold enough. For me the seeds are just plain easier. I really love how stunning they are and the fabulous foliage makes them worth growing every year IMHO.

CLC70- Connie To left of the bird bath I have a bunch of perennial hibiscus and then in front of the birdbath I have some hummingbird salvia and then in front of that is Coneflowers. It looks like they are leaning toward the birdbath but the only one for sure leaning is the hibiscus and you would know the flowers of that one. But the rounded one is coneflower. HTH

Gardenweed I can not remember the name os the cana there are also red ones here as well. I bought a pack of mixed seeds from ebay and nother germinated sadly. But I also collect seeds as well as dig up the plants in the late fall.
