Will spagnum or other moss OR ferns overwinter if submerged/water

I want to plant ferns and moss among the rocks and gravel on my marginal shelf where they will be barely above waterlevel where they do well;

in the winter, i intend to raise the water level of my pond to the very top so that the rocks that the moss and the ferns are planted in [above waterlevel for now] will no longer be bellow waterlevel. will the waterlogged moss and fern roots die if they are submerged in ice-cold water for the winter and first weeks of spring?
