Need suggestions for fill for new bog

I scavenged a small "peanut" shaped pond with a few cracks from a friend. It has the typical stepped bottom; 10" and 20" deep. I thought it would would make a decent "bog" garden. The plants I've selected are Vanilla Sweet Grass (Hierochloe odorata), Nodding Pink Onion (Allium cernuum), Red Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata), and Wild Iris (Iris shrevei).

Should I put a filler such as styro peanuts in the deep section? I don't beleive any of the plants needs acidic soil so pine needles wouldn't be necessary. What ratio of peat to sand would you recommend?

TIA Kimmers
