I wonder what would happen to the ph of the rivers and streams if everyone used acid on their lawns?? Probably everything would improve because vinegar is a carbohydrate that soil microbes need. Currently a lot of people in the east use lime on their soil. Is that similar to what you're asking? "Organic"....yea whatever. A much abused word.... If you want to see a fight rage, go to an organic forum and start a discussion on the definition of organic. "Hey look at me I'm so good I'm trying to save everyone by using my enormous knowledge to save the environment." And...this is a problem...why? But trust me, there is no enormous body of knowledge in the world of organic gardening or farming. Simply stopping the use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides requires no knowledge at all. The alternative to chemicals, using organic fertilizer, similarly requires no knowledge. Possibly the biggest problem with converting is forcing yourself to forget everything you thought you knew about gardening. No matter who you are in this country, if you have any knowledge of gardening, then you have an NPK mentality. With organics, NPK really has no meaning. Yet organic gardeners still talk about applying so many pounds of nitrogen every year. Why? Because NPK is drummed into your head in every book, magazine/newspaper article, advertising, college course, and government pamphlet.

First, a cautionary note. Is it 'Snow in Summer' (cerastium Tomentosa) or 'Snow on the Mountain' (Aegopodium)? These two are often confused when gardeners use their common names which is why you should ID them properly. If it's the 'summer', then you can do what you suggest without a problem. If it's 'Mountain', then I would file the whole lot under G (garbage) and dispose of it as far away from your property as possible. This is a plant which will take over and even the smallest roots will form another plant to take over whatever space it can. In the right place it can actually be stunning, but will need deep unbroken borders to keep it in check and should never be left to go to seed. A neighbor of mine tried to snuff out an area of the Aegopodium by cutting it back to the ground with a weed whacker, then covering with 2 layers of landscape fabric, then applying a foot of fresh wood chips. Two seasons later it returned with a vengeance forcing it's way through the overlapping seams and creeping out through the perimeter. The roots of the Bee Balm usually run in the first few inches of the soil, so burying them a bit deep would be OK.

Find a bee keeper that will come out and remove that hive. Normally, and contrary to what many people seem to believe, bees will not sting you or the children. Bees are out and about for one reason, to collect pollen from plants and make honey. The only reason a bee might sting anyone is because they feel threatened and once a bee stings that bee dies, so there is no incentive for any bee to sting. I have worked out in the garden with tons of bees working the blossoms with no problem. The one time I was stung by a bee I was no where near any flower, the bee was traveling somewhere and flew into the shop door I had just opened and was knocked down onto my arm where the wee bugger stung me, and died. In my experience, most everyone that has been stung by a "bee" has actually been stung by a Yellow Jacket, a wasp that looks a bit like a bee to people that do not know the difference. kimmq is kimmsr

I know this thread is old but maybe this will benefit some people who have wasp problems. I discovered this wasp cure quite by accident. My brother had a dead animal in the walls of his house so we were trying to find something that would kill the smell, turns out chlorine and ammonia mixed will attack and kill the viruses that eat dead animals which causes the smell. I was experimenting with the mix and left a glass sitting on my back deck. Now I live in the country, have 3 acres and the wasps have historically been horrible at my house, when I get out of the car and come in side you would think I was dancing from dodging the wasps. I tried all the remedies, traps, sprays etc... but these are only good to kill them not keep them away. I noticed the next day after leaving this chlorine / Ammonia mix on my deck that there were considerably fewer wasps, which was odd. This was 2 weeks ago, I have kept a glass on my back deck for the past 2 weeks and now I might see an occasional one every now and then but it's usually flying away not at me. So if you want to keep wasps away, ie. not have to bother killing them, this stuff works big time. Get some chlorine tablets, you can buy them in jugs in most stores that sell pool supplies, get a bottle of regular household ammonia. Get a glass or I use a canning jar, put in 8 ounces of water and about 3 to 4 tablespoons of ammonia, now drop the chlorine tablet in and stir a couple rounds then leave it sit. (DO NOT DO THIS INDOORS) or if you do stay out for a couple hours. The gas released from the chemical reaction between the chlorine and ammonia is strong and wards off wasps and flies and mosquitos so far. This initial mix will last about 3 days, just stir it a couple times each day, then on the 4th day pour in another tablespoon or 2 of ammonia and stir again, repeat this for days 5, 6 and 7 then it's time to start a new batch. This has solved my wasp problem and I'm sure it will for you as well. Hope this helps
