Since there were no honey bees in North America until settlers brought them they should be considered invasive. Exotic?

Exotic = Foreign.

I don't have any opinion on this, good or bad. I was just wondering how you guys felt about it. I grow a lot of plants that are not natives. I don't raise bees, but I do raise a lot of flowers. (See my homepage) I guess I was just wondering if Honeybees make it more difficult for the native bees?
I don't like Colony Collapse and the mite problems any more than you do though.

Actually, I've been having the same thoughts recently on the subject. Honeybees were brought over by Europeans when there were already bees here in North America. On the other hand, the Europeans also started growing fields of grains and things that were not here either. I wonder if the honey bees were the only bees that were up to the task of pollinating large crops, or if the settlers were simply ignorant of the natives. Or maybe it was all about the honey.

Still, I'm really happy whenever I spot a honeybee.

Curious as to which native bees you believe are being made more difficult by honey bees. How and what are they making more difficult. Please explain more fully your thoughts.

I didn't say honeybees were making it more difficult for the native bees, I was wondering if they do.

To know that you would have to check the various bee types that honey bees could interact with or take over their territory. The same way an invasive, non native, plant would do. Without knowing which native bees you are talking about there is no way to tell if things have been made more difficult. I had been hoping that someone would post a type of bee or bees that had been researched.

Anyone?
