What else can I do?

Last year I lost six bulbs of amaryllis 'punecium',which I had brougt from Liberia. The basal-plate rot was, prima faci, due to a strain of fungus called 'fusarium oxysporum'. I took the remaining bulbs out of the planter and planted them in ground. This spring five of them did not produce flower scapes and the leaves were also yellow. I took them out and saw signs of basal rot once again. I performed surgery very carefully, removing the affected parts of the plate and the scales. Then I let the bulbs stand in a solution of rooting hormone and antifungus overnight. The next day I planted them in 3 inch pots filled with sterile soil and sand and watered them sparingly. I was expecting good results but none of those bulbs could survive. Now I am left with four bubls only. I have flooded the soil of the bed with 2.5 mg methafanate methyl per liter. I hope the fungi spores do not proleferate further. What else should I do?
