Oh Usha! Your pond and yard looks SO Nice! I know what ya mean about Judy! The 2 tropical lilies she gave me have put on a Blue and Lavender show every day for over 2 months now :) It's like looking out over my own little Monet :)

Well, now, TomatoFreak- "it's too hot to dig" all depends on what kind of digging.....there's a guy up our street with a backhoe, he dug our large pond for a modest fee. So, think big! And have someone else dig it!

AZreno...I have seen people bunch up their floaters on the pond tour but did not know why. I will try it since my floaters are not multiplying.
Sam..the key is heat and food. I put in the aquatic plant tablets..2-3 per pot when I plant them. They last the whole season.
Is anyone able to keep taros in this setting(gets sun all day)?

Just went out and snapped this pic. This leaf is 20 inches X 11 inches. They will get MUCH bigger. Full sun. The pot is sunk pretty deep, probably more than a foot. Maybe yours was too shallow? When I rip it out this Fall I'll save some for ya :) Looks like my Bengal Canna has finally decided to go for it also, I'll save a chunk of it as well.

No Sam, One foot is not deep for water lilies. Five feet might be, depending on the lily.

GT, That leaf is awesome! Wowie.

Wow GT..That is awesome. I have a little one on patio this season and it is getting sunburn. In the past years..I have killed many. Perhaps the species is different. I bought bengal tiger at HD this season.
Sam..water lillies are 'deep aquatic' plants. Make sure the leaves float on water..that is how you adjust how deep the plant sits.

Some people put Canna's and Taro so that just their "feet" are wet. I do better sinking them, the same with the swamp iris that I had go crazy this year :) You can drop a pot of lilies down 2 ft and the pads will reach the top within days. Your fine on the lilies ;)

Wouldn't you know it. My bunnies survive deep water but my water lilies drown.

I rabbit proofed my fence after they ate lots of my plants..apprently they like what I like.

Have to add my thanks to Judy B! The Hollandia waterlily she gave me is blooming ! And the miniature lily is thriving, so I expect blooms soon there too. Sadly I think the bunnies have found the golden rushes though -- they are now out on the farthest edge of a shelf in hopes we can revive them, shoots still coming but who knows if the new placement will deter those pesky rabbits....

Hey Kathleen and the rest, My ponds are doing well. Most everything is up and blooming. My raised pond is getting clearer thanks to h2o2. Magic stuff, that. We still have some fish so the herons and grackles haven't taken all of them. The toads have shut up their caterwauling, though I did practically stumble over two of the biggest toads I've seen. They were on the walk in a tight clinch, they should have been paying more attention. They're goners now.

This afternoon there was a humongous dragonfly laying eggs in the ponds. It was one of those green ones and I have never seen such a large one. Gorgeous!

Very, very, nice! Thanks for sharing the eye candy with us. :) I haven't been able to check in in a few days and I just posted pics of mine (many from Judy as well, lol). Your pond and your plants are really impressive....keep us posted!

Roo, you NEED a pond. :-) It won't cost you much to stock with plants. Anyone who has a thriving pond ends up with waay too many plants. All you need is the muscle to dig one out and the liner. Then, you too can sit and worry about your water being green or why you can't keep the water hyacinths alive, and, gee, why didn't I make this pond bigger. :-D
