What has bloomed while I was involved with school photo heavy

Hi all, I'm going to post a few photos of what's bloomed while I was finishing up school. Right now I'm expecting Ludwigs Dazzler to open within the week, I still have Red, White, and Yellow thanksgiving cacti blooming!!!, orchids and hoyas are bursting, and my garden is 3/4 of the way through FALL/spring cleaning! LOL

Anyway, here are some hippi and friends photos from the sun/plant room.

Awesome spread you have there, mate. i didn't know you grow orchids!!!! ME TOO!!! I only grow phals because my flat's windows face the dark side of the moon-- so I grow them under lights-- although, the sun is finally peaking in every day for about 3 hours of direct light for my phals in the window that are blooming. Maybe we can trade some time!!!!! I don't have any babies yet but I'm sure some will come along. Aw, I love phals...

Those easter tulips are impressive-- wow! I never heard of them before-- they're on the list for when I finally get a back yard again.

SO many beautiful blooms! Guess they were all cheering you on too!

THose tulips are spectacular...love the varigated leaves with those beautiful blossoms! If I get my greenhouse this winter I will try growing more of them inside away from the botritis and other bad life forms. For now, I Only have room for a few crates of early singlesfor Valentines bouquets.

Hi there Kioni, the Jungle Bells is bolted down with rubber bands as a temporary measure as it was producing scapes before roots and I wanted the bulb to remain upright until the roots took. The cylindrica has no pups! I am patiently waiting for them though as I love this sans. The cylindrica has been in that pot about 2 years and is quite root bound. The larger one in the other photo you speak of blooms about every other year. Both the cylindrica and the trif are both heavily scented, the cylindricas scent came in waves through out the night, like a cross between honey and house hold cleaner! The trifs are more of an easter lily scent but not quite as pleasant. I'm almost as fond of sans as I am of hippis but don't have the room for all I want! I've got the cylindrica, a masons congo, some of the birds nest hahnii, and a couple of trifasciata. If I had a greenhouse I'd be in big trouble collecting others as well. I have a pretty large variety of plants, but more hippis than anything else right now. I had to reduce my collection by about 65% when I moved to my current residence. Sadly most of what I left behind were orchids and Larger plants that would just not fit here. Eventually, I'd love to garden in the south again where most of my plants can spend 10 months or longer outdoors. (or get a really large greenhouse!) Frank, I don't think you're a dork, at all! There's nothing wrong with being sentimental, and remembering good things... even if they do make your eyes tear up. I can clearly remember the beautiful Bleeding Hearts my Grandma grew... and her luscious Peonies... and I half laugh/half cry when I think about all the plants my Mom killed, even though she tried so hard... she just didn't possess the gardener gene! It skipped a generation! Actually, Ryan, I have my Calla Lily planted in a very well-draining medium, in a clay pot. It bloomed and grew ok last season, but wasn't really that impressive. It was a $2 bagged rhizome from Lowe's, I think. Not the highest quality, I'm sure. I'm just surprised it hasn't begun to grow yet this year. I haven't had a chance to look at that website with the Irises yet... but I'm going to! I never miss a chance to drool at online photos of gorgeous flowers! I didn't know that those fountain pumps could be adjusted... you learn something new every day! Thanks for that, Ryan! That little piece of information has just widened my choice for an indoor water thingy... I need to up the humidity, and I think a little fountain will help. Well, guys... it's been fun, but the dogs have their legs crossed, so I'm off for now! Have a sweet day!

Cindee, Indeed, Hungarian recipes. Cucumber Salad: Depending on your variety (I usually use the English Seedless Cucumbers that are individually wrapped. One cucumber is enough for four people, and you don't need to skin it.), you peel or if the skin is edible, then just thin slice your cucumbers and hint them with salt, then let them sit while you are preparing the bath for them. You take a glass of water and pour a small amount of vinegar in it, about 10/1 ratio, but depending on how sour you like your salads, you can make it more vinegary, then pour one or two table spoons of sugar in the mix and stir it until it is clear. Again, if you like it sweeter, you adjust the amount of sugar. If you want, you thin slice an onion and put them on the cucumber slices, then drench the whole thing with your bath so it fills every piece, then put the whole thing in the refridgerator till dinner is ready to be served, so it cools down. If you want to stir sour cream in, then you do it just before you are ready to serve. Take desired amount of the cucumber without the liquid, then simply mix in some sour cream, or just pour some on the top. Some people like to sprinkle paprika powder on it when served. Does this sound familiar? It goes well with stews, chicken paprikas, any kind of paprikas, meat dishes as a garnish. cucumber salad Cabbage and noodles: I still often prepare it. Slice a whole head of cabbage to very thin slices and brown them in butter or oil till the whole mass is glassy and soft. Add salt, and liberal amount of ground pepper. Be careful though, because pepper will make this dish spicy. Boil your water with some salt and toss some pasta in it that has a large surface to which the cabbage can stick to later when you mix them up. If you can find, buy square shaped, not too thin pasta. When it is done, drain off all the cooking water and either toss the cabbage over it or toss it over the cabbage and mix. That's all. Some mix cottage cheese, or sugar in it when they get their portion. You definitely don't need meat if you are having this for a dinner! cabbage and noodles (The pictures are borrowed. Thank you Kathy! That spirea is planted so close to the house it really has to arch out, I'm sure it would easily be 5' across if it really had the room to grow. but it seems happy there and I love the back drop it provides in that corners so I don't think I'll move it. and with the 5 maple trees on the property I definitely don't ahve a shortage of leaves! :) Thank you Kathi! Unfortunately I don't know the hardiness of the spirea, all I know is just about eveyone in my area has it. Good luck finding out! Thank you Prairie Girl! Yup that's blue ice amsonia - I love it!! I got that from a co-worker. I'm glad your iris finally bloomed!! I don't know if I could've waited for 10 years, lol! Hi Rick, thanks for the suggestion! I have some plumbago out front that I have to move because for so reason I thought it was good for dense shade but it's not doing anything for me at all. I think moving it under that tree is a great idea, thanks! Thank you Judy! I agree, it helps me so much to see the "big picture" and how the plants co-habitate more then a close up of 2 or 3 companion plants. Beautiful blooms and CONGRATS my Chaz buddy!! That phaius - 2nd photo- is to die for!! My clown is just begining to bud again. It is one of the HUGEST amaryllis flowers and plants I have ever seen. I love it! Good luck with yours.

Hi all!
It's so nice to be back and have a bit of time!

Ryan, Liza, I called the tulips, Easter tulips, because they were purchased for the table for Easter! I really have no idea what the variety is, sorry for the confusion. Ryan, I'm just getting back into Orchids, I had to leave a large amount of them in NJ with the woman I sold the house too, our home up here is just kept to cold. In NJ I had a conservatory added to the top floor of the house and it was a great place for orchids, bannanas, and other tropicals. I'm trying phals again this year but think the sun/plant room may be too cold and don't know where I'll move them too, maybe my home office. The cattleya, dendrobium, and some other hardier varieties do fine with some drops into the upper 30's but the phals really suffer.

Liza, I battle with squirrels here when it comes to tulips, the little buggers like to behead them and leave the flower at the base of the plant.

Alana, I spent many hours annoyed that the Zombie could look wistfully out the window and I couldn't! LOL

Cindeea my dear!!!! that phaius orchid was huge, the spike was almost 28 inches tall! the leaves are just as tall but spread. It's a ground orchid so you probably could grow it where you are! Logees sells them.

Such pretty photos Chaz! I have no doubt they kept you company while you were doing all that studying...so glad you are over that hurdle!

If I had to pick a favorite, it would have to be Hercules. Not just for the bloom color, but because I really just love saying Hercules! Sometimes I say it three times and clap my hands like the lady version of Eddie Murphy in movie The Nutty Professor. Hahaaa!

Hopefully now you'll have more time to enjoy all the fruits of your labor Chaz.

Fabulous, Chaz! Just fabulous! I love Hercules... and Zombie, of course... and those orchids are to die for! That Phaius is gorgeous! And the lovely Aphrodite! And a scented Apple Blossom... you're so lucky!

You sure have quite a spread of blooms to enjoy! I'm jealous! All I've got are some little white garden amaryllis, and a Phal, Sogo Grape Fireball, my first orchid to bloom here, just because I kept it alive! :-)

I'm so glad you're able to take a few moments to enjoy your flowers! It's been a crazy time, I'm sure, what with finals and graduation... and now the state testing... I hope you'll get a chance to enjoy your yard and gardens, too!
