I think my bamboo is dying-please help

I recently transplated 6 bamboo trees to my backyard and 4 of them look really bad. I water them twice a day but they are turning yellow and the leaves are falling off. Any advice? Should I dig them up and give them bigger holes with new dirt? I have pictures but don't know how to post those

Your posting gives no clue as to the variety of bamboo or your location/zone (Arizona, Miami, Boise, Manila?). High summer is really not a good time of the year to be doing major transplanting. (But you may already know this and had no choice I understand.) I would urge you NOT to move the bamboos again. They may well acclimate eventually to their new home. I have had to move bamboo in non-prime times of the year as well (I moved last year). Your bamboos may continue to defoliate. Don't panic at this point. If you keep them well watered, chances are that they will refoliate eventually.--Give them time and be patient. I can say this on the basis of personal experience with plants that I too assumed were goners. I would refrain from fertilizing until growth resumes. And next time try to do any transplanting in early spring before new growth begins. (For me this means March or April.)--Good luck!

I'd bet you're overwatering. Try not watering until you see the leaves really start to curl up axially. Don't worry, after watering the leaves will uncurl in about 10 minutes. Yellowing is usually overwatering or stress.

It's hard to tell if the wilting is caused form lack of water or a result of the plant bing sick. One thing I have realized w/mine is it grows more in the winter months than in the spring/summer. I have to really cut back on the watering in the spring/summer, mine tells me when I water it too much, the bottom leaves turn yellow and eventually fall off. At one time there were three stalks on mine, I lost one to what sounds like you are experiancing. But the two remaining stalks are doing fine. However the stalks are narrow in some place, I do have to stake it to keep it up right.This was taken some time ago, it is now 4' tall.

You haven't given much to work on. The two big killers of rhododendrons are wet and dry. Too wet causes root rot. Too dry causes die-back. Other possibilities are weed killer on the lawn, lime on the lawn, the loss of a shade tree, or being improperly planted 20-years ago. That is probably the most likely. If the roots weren't opened up before it was planted they may be strangling themselves now. You would have to dig it up to detect this. If that was it, you could cut away the offending circling roots. It would be a real challenge to the plant, but it has a possibility of recovering if it isn't too far gone.

Xuan... when I picture your name, I picture a beautiful swan gliding effortlessly across a pond in springtime, the banks colored with early blossoms from young trees in lavenders and blush pinks! The translation is quite lovely! My name is too new to have a translation... I've never seen it listed in any book that gives name meanings from long ago. It's actually a combination of my Mom and Dad's names, Joe and Dorothy... and when they named me, they had actually chosen Jennifer... then changed it at the last minute to Jodi. I'm not sure where they got the spelling... the normal way would be either Jody or Jodie... but I'm pretty different, so it fits! LOL! Spring is beyond wonderful for me! As soon as winter sets in, so does depression. Every day that isn't sunny is a blah sort of day... I need the sunshine to feel alive, and the higher in the sky it is, the better I feel! I don't know what they call the syndrome, but lack of sun and cold weather don't agree with me very well, at all! Spring is a time of rebirth, and I absolutely love watching the earth come alive again! I love the scent of spring air, watching the buds and leaves grow everywhere... seeing the first tiny blooms begin to open, and watching the birds and other animals get ready to bring new babies into the world... it's a magical time for me, and it always has been... even as a child! I'm enthralled by the changing palate of color and growth that occurs in spring! I feel reborn every spring! Notice the time stamps on my postings... in spring, they're very early! I love getting up early and enjoying the sunrise with a good cup of coffee! I can hear the birds singing, and I feel the sun coming in the window, warming everything... spring is MY time! I think that with what we've all learned recently regarding soil and water and how it works within the confines of a container, we'll have a much easier time growing our bulbs! I think we will be rewarded with healthy growth, both above and below soil level, and I think next bloom season will be so much better!

I'm guessing this is Giant Timber bamboo, Bambusa oldhamii? When you say planted 2' deep, what does that mean? Top of the root ball was planted 2' below ground level or hole was 2' deep? What kind of soil do you have? Sandy? Clay? When you water do you water near the plant or right next to the stalk? How much water each watering? Before you water, when you stick your finger into the soil next to the stalk is the spoil muddy, damp or dry? What have your temps been like? Humidity? That's really fast loss. It's possible the trouble even started when it was still in the pot, not watered enough maybe.

How big are these bamboo? When you transplanted each one, how large of an undisturbed rootball did you take? Did you re-plant immediately?

Bamboo, being in the grass family is extremely pugnacious. If you saved any of the corms chances are it will live.
The leaves will fall off, this is normal. Those canes will more than likely die, however, the next year they will return with a vengeance. No need to dig a bigger hole, just keep moist, not overly wet, and do not fertilize until you see growth next spring. Using a very light fertilizer, the lightest strength you can use.
Bamboo sends out canes twice a year, the other time it is sending out runners to expand its empire.

I have a large stand of bamboo. I have no idea what kind but it is very tall. It has always been healthy and hardy. However this past winter it started dying. This spring it put out many new shoots and I was hopeful but all I have is stalk. Any advice would be appreciated.
