She shoots.....She SCORES!!!

I was at a friend's house late this afternoon, and I hadn't been out there for probably 5+ years. As soon as I drove up I notices HUGE clumps of amaryllis planted around his propane tank that were ready to bloom. Being a "country" gentleman, he poured me a beer and we walked around his acreage, where I noticed clumps of these bulbs apparently growing wild! WELL.....I just had to have some! I sweet talked him into digging up a big clump of 6-7 bulbs and we laid them in a plastic bag and transported them to the back seat of my vehicle. Even though it's nearly 10:30 at night, I have carefully planted them in some native soil. There are plenty of scapes and these blooms should open in the next couple of days! They are amazing. Red with white stripes...not H. Johnsonii (I don't think), but I will rely on an expert to ID!

This was the most amazing April Fool's day!!! AMAZING!! Something big has happened since I found out about my brother...it's like I've been released!!! The butterfly has emerged...watch out world!

I visit Oregon whenever possible - it is defintely one of the most beautiful states. The cheeseboard is stunning, as is the quilting. Everything looks great. From what I can tell, the Ina Garten books will be fantastic also, although I've never seen her. I tried to get one of her videos for this swap on eBay but got outbid. BH - now at THAT price, why wouldn't you scoop up one of those tables for your coffee table? They look like they'd be perfect cut down. CP, that love seat is adorable! I just love the old one in my office, that started out rust and ivory big checks from 'Country Farm Furniture', I don't know how many years ago. The small size is perfect, and it looks to be the size of yours. Great job re-doing it! Update - my sister scoffed up the 'all leather' chair above faster than you can imagine. It's in her bedroom already where I hear it looks great. My mother wants the other one, but I told her I'd find her another chair for her bedroom! It'll be the payment for the next time she has to baby sit my dogs when I travel for work.

oh, that is a wonderful piece! Great find, and a nice size, too! I just have to share what I found today...ran out at lunch time to try to find a little dog or frog for the base of my "little boy"....didn't find either of those, BUT....OMG...look what I DID find! I just love these colors, reminds me of mexican pottery/mosaics ....AND... found 4 red plates that will coordinate perfectly. They are a reddish orange. And the prices were right - the set was $20 - and there were 40 pieces! And the plates were $2 (for all 4).

But Fine, what if DD wanted to spend the holiday with you rather than have 'precious time' with her father? Then what, if you are putting her first? "I would insist on raising children to be independent, i'd rather they argue wiht parents, don't be obedient, be opinionated but be able to say honestly what they need." I totally agree, however some kids are emotionally punished when they say what they need because it doesn't fall in line with what one of their parents 'needs'. In a perfect world kids should be able to freely speak about their feelings and needs, but this world is far from perfect. One can certainly always do the right thing regardless of what others do. BUT - what if it's only right for the other parent? What if it isn't what the child wants, and certianly not something the other parent would do in return? Should it still be done? Nicksmom's SD as an example - SD doesn't want to go early and has spoke up to say so (to dad and SM) and Dad and SM don't want to to go earlier as it will be an additional cost they will have to cover to give mom what only she wants. What part of this sounds like the 'right' thing to do for anyone . . .other than mom??

AWWWW~~~ Love the poem my dear friend Blanca! Did you write that??

OK, April Fools' recap! First...I am sooooo serious most of the time and I actually pulled a small prank on 3 people AND IT WORKED EACH TIME! These were all people I know well. I said I had something in my hair and I couldn't see it. Could they see anything?? As they looked I dropped some little plastic spiders on their desk! Got screams 2 of the 3 times, followed by laughter!

Now here's the weird part of the day --- In the morning I got an email from a boyfriend that I lost touch with back in 1982. I found a Valentine's card from him a few weeks ago while I was cleaning and wondered what had happened to him. It took a while searching the internet, but we connected yesterday and he was actually happy that I had made the effort. He still lives in so Cal (where I grew up). Not married, no kids...wants to keep in touch, etc. Finding old friends is just soooo great. Then I got a cute email from another guy at work that is working his way into the "friend" category. He's always been there for me during times of crisis (linkage cable break in car transmission and garbage disposal disaster last thanksgiving)...so we are working on the friendship "thing". Making friends is harder when you are older. I don't know if we put more restricitions on it or what, but it's just different. Then I get all these text messages from my "country" gentleman friend to come out and have a beer with him...which turned into 2 beer, dinner and a movie! And somewhere in between I had communications with the guy that I am interested in (always nice to hear his voice). I was on guy "FRIEND OVERLOAD" yesterday...! WHOOO HOOOO!!!

I couldn't be happier for you, Kristi! Most excellent! It sounds like you're developing quite the social life!

I think that as we get older, our priorities change... we no longer think with our hormones! We look for different things in other people. We are now old enough and wise enough to look past the outward cover of a book. We know it's the story inside that makes that book important.

Can't wait to see photos of your new bulbs!
