I have collected tiarella and sowed them as they need to be fresh, also collected seeds of mitella diphylla. Will collect Ragged robin/ lychnis/ seeds hopefully tomorrow, am working this weekend. Geranium pyrenaicum giving me such a show but it is getting lots of seeds now, as well as chelidonium majus. Time to watch for them...

White Bleeding Heart and Dianthus Coconut Surprise.

I've collected seed from perennial alyssum "basket of gold" this week. This plant was new to me, WS last year and bloomed this spring just beautifully along a walkway. The foliage is low and compact and neatly "spills" and is a nice green-gray color. I am going to try to sow this seed right away to get more established for next year. Does anyone know if I let is dry first or sow immediately (seeds are brownish, matured on plant)?

Retiredprof - Just a heads-up on the Bleeding Heart seeds. They don't stay viable for long. Keeping them in a cool place would be best.

Collected seeds from chives and sowed some more. Collected the first of my Coreopsis baby sun today!! Still collecting purple leaf plum, and more to come, I curamba I am overloaded with those, anyone want any??

Alberta: What is THAT yellow stuff that gets all over your hands with dicentra? This was my first time collecting seeds from the white bleeding heart and I couldn't figure out where this was coming from. Took a couple good scrubs to get rid of it.

I collected some old fashioned bleeding hearts, dwarf bleeding hearts and yellow columbine. I'm going to sow some of them right away to see what I get. I love the columbine.

I am staring at lots of seed heads waiting for them to be ripe. Mostly on my poppies and perennial cornflower.

I lost the Bleeding heard seed pods :( They fell off before I got them.

I also have trouble spotting seeds. Oh well, I am new at seed collecting :)

pitimpinai, my anabelle hydrengea that you gave me has a bloom on it. I was so excited. it is so small I was not expecting a bloom. Also some of the coneflower has blooms too.

Can you collect seeds from a Hydrengea? I am off to research that!

Glad they are doing well.
Annabelle from cuttings will skip blooming the following season, but will take off like gangbusters afterwards. Mine are over 5 feet tall this year. They love the rain! After 15 years, they started to sucker. Mine are about 18 years old, I think.

If you would like more Annabelle, wait until next March. I can give you as many as you like. I gave Ronneil over 20 rooted stems/suckers this March. He got all the best specimens. :-)

You can also try stem cuttings early next spring. It's best to cut all the stems to the ground in March. I usually saved all the cuttings and rooted them. Usually 50% of them would grow roots.

I will try to root some cuttings for fun! 5 feet tall is nice! I put it in a good spot for some height thank goodness.

I also would love any you want to give away. I have an area I might make a new bed this summer and wait till next spring to plant in it. I can add those and some other WS stuff!

I collected seeds from a pretty, pink, winter sown columbine today. I was waiting for the pods to ripen and start to pop open. When I went out to check them today, I didn't see them. I found one bent over and two more completely severed from the plant. I suspect that Mrs. Rabbit nipped them off.

Coreopsis! Such cool little turtle shell seeds.

Noticed that my purple allium flowers (from bulbs) were forming seeds. I had left the cool "baseball sized" pom poms on after the flowers faded. I don't know a thing about these seeds but I potted them up just in case they are one of those you must do fresh. I figure I'll just leave the pot outside and see what happens (in case it needs cold).

Also attempted to gather some seeds on short english daisys that bloomed to the spring. Not too many left. I had WSed these last year and really like these as an edging plant. Bloomed for over a month.

I have little yellow alliums and I picked some seed heads yesterday. But I'm new at this and I'm not sure what to do with them. I had put them in a plastic bag, but moisture was starting to form, so I took them out and put them in an open plastic conatiner lined with a paper towel. Is the goal to wait until they are completly dry before bagging?

Did the same thing with some pansy seeds, and I'll hit the columbine and the B Buttons tomorrow.

How do you know when the Bachelor Buttons seeds are ready? Some are dryish looking and droopy. I want to get them before the birds do! There was a gold finch hanging off them this morning having breakfast :)
