I need help identifing this Bamboo!!! Help!!!

My dad lives in Meridian, MS and found this Bamboo. I have been bugging him to find me some since he moved there. Now that he has found it I need to find out what kind it is. I live in Southern Michigan so I need to know how hardy it is. I could probably have him take some closer picÂs if needed. Link to the pics are below. Thank you for any help!!!!

The link you provided only brings me to the Kodak Gallery signin page. Please post the correct link, or post the picture in the GardenWeb gallery for this forum...

Thanks for the replies. @ Tiemco so Tall fescue is the type of seeds I need to buy for that bare spots? Sorry is that's a dumb question LOL! Here is the bare spot in the front. Below are a few pictures of the rear. @ Newrandwest I noticed the tearing when I was reviewing the pics. I have a push mower & that it a brand new blade on it. Do you have to sharpen new blades? I just thought about it. I used a pellet type of weed & feed shortly before the guy at the store told me to try the liquid kind. I only treated the front half of the yard with that & I treated the whole yard with the liquid. I dont know if that was too much for the grass but I believe the pellets are the reason the front looks pretty green & half decent. I didn't use the pellets in the back because money was getting low plus the back was in really bad condition & needed a lot of work. The yard has a little incline up to the canter then it goes back down & that kinda hide the rough parts from the front. Here is the main problem spot in the front yard. From the front porch Up close Dead? Under the side extension for the kitchen Back yard. You can see the weed killer are keeping those little white flower things in the other yard Is if my yard wasn't jacked up enough... Thanks Direct TV guy! If I could get my entire yard to look like this part in the front I would be very happy :-)

Care of lucky bamboo: All lucky bamboo needs to grow is a container,clean water and polished stones to keep the stalks upright. It doesnÂt do well with fluoride,so tap water is not preferable.If you must use tap water,let it sit out overnight before using.This will cause the chloride to evaporate,but wonÂt get rid of the fluoride.Change the water once a month adding a drop of fertilizer if you want rapid growth.It doesnÂt like to be over-fertilized though. DonÂt wash the stones as the nutrients are stored in the rocks. Also donÂt fill the container too full (especially a tall vase) as they will cause the bamboo to sprout roots higher on the stalk.The roots need to be totally submerged in water though. Place the bamboo in an area with bright filtered light.It will also do well in a room with no natural light. Exposure to sunlight, treated water,roots that arenÂt in the water,or sudden tem- perature changes can cause problems for lucky bamboo.If the leaves start to turn yellow,check the lighting,change the water using only filtered or distilled water,and/or move it out of drafts or away from furnace registers. Trim yellow leaves with a sharp clean scissors.This should bring it back to health. High salt levels can also burn the tips of leaves.Salt buildup can come from city water or fertilizer.Fertilize with care.

I'm still not sure if you have the same bamboo, but transplants that I have dug and replanted take about 3 or 4 years to reach full size. Thickest canes get about 1 inch in diameter and about 12 feet in height and a few up to maybe 15 feet. It survived the coldest Winter here and the worst drought on record. It grows similar to Arrow Bamboo or like a small Tonkin Cane Bamboo. I'll take a closer look tomorrow and see if the new shoots look similar to the ones you posted. Kt

There are hundreds of green bamboo and many of them look quite alike. There's not enough detail in that picture to even take a wild guess. We'd need some closeups of the nodes, leaves and branches, and a shoot to narrow things down.

I couldn't figure out how to do more than 1 picture at a time on the gallery page. If you copy the long link in my first post and then paste into a different web browser then that should take you to the correct link. Thanks!

I did copy and paste the link and it only takes me to the login page, not your picture(s). I suspect it works for you because you're logged in to your Kodak account or have a cookie on your computer. It's correct that you can ony do one photo at a time in the gallery, but that's your only choice, unless you know HTML, or can post the correct link for others to view, or can post at some other picture sharing site like photobucket.com.

Hard to tell, maybe Phyllostachys bambusoides? Do the culms have white powder beneath the nodes? If so it could be Ph. vivax. Nice find, but both would be sorta marginal in MI.

Looks like a Phyllostachys, it may be
P.aurea aka Golden Bamboo aka fishpole bamboo.

A close-up of the lower culms will be helpful. How tall and thick are the culms?

I just posted more photos of this bamboo on photobucket.com. Please take a look and let me know what you think it might be. The bamboo is 1 1/2" - 2" in diameter + or - a little, and is probably 25'-30' tall. Thanks guys!!!

Still looks like P. aurea. Are there any compressed nodes on some of the lower culms, resembling a handle?
