what a bulbs, how many do you have?

what do you do with the Hipps. in the summer, are the going in the full ground? [a few days ago, the temperature was here 80/85 fahrenheit!:):)
so al my hipps are standing outside, in big pots.
there is only one problem: they loste their leaves...
the sun was burning on it and now the are gone, i hope there come new ones:P

80-85 is cool and not hot.
My bulbs dont loose leaves even at 120 F and sun much brighter then yours.If they have lost all leaves, it may be due to no water or over watering.

I would consider your pots too small for the size of bulbs.In your experience are they big enough for permanent potting.

Dizzy...email me with your address. You are so right with the dedication. I decided to start this collection and I think it is my responsibility to take good care of them as much as I could. Yes, they could be heavy but good exercise...lol!

Dablo...the collection is running to the 80s named varieties right now. Most of them are newly purchased. After making them bloom inside, I slowly bring them outside to direct sunlight and bring them in when temp goes down to 40s. So with this terrible spring weather, it's in...out...in...out for me and my amaryllises. When the minimum temperature don't go below 50s anymore, they will all stay outside until late fall.

ARIF...As I mentioned earlier, most of these are newly purchased bulbs. The older/established bulbs are at the right side in 8"pots(miniature/small varieties) and 10-12"pots(large varieties). They are just waking up from being stored in unheated garage. I start my newly purchased bulbs in 4-6" clay pots to avoid rotting. Spring I repot them to next bigger size pots. Summer, repot again to the next bigger size pot if they need it. Older bulbs that produced babies would then be repotted to 14"pots.

Growing amaryllises in colder zones like mine is hard if you do not have a greenhouse. Amaryllis growers in warm areas are very lucky.

What a wonderful sight! Isn't it great to be able to take our Amaryllis outside? I am still in the process of hardening a few off so they can get more sun.

I finally put a few more in the ground yesterday, and hope to plant even more of them later this week. I am what you call an overprotective mother when it comes to my amaryllis, and I really do need to get over that!!!

I am going to be moving all my larger amaryllis to the far corner of my pool patio and the smaller ones to the wrought iron plant shelf along the side. Now that they are done blooming, I will be bringing in a large planter of new bulbs-Glads, Calla, Peruvian Daffs and montbretia by my sitting bench and patio fountain. The bulbs will give me something to watch over and play with over the summer. The remainder of the bulbs I have already planted around the A/C unit on the side yard and in just 4 days, I have glads sprouting already! Of course, I am still keeping a close watch on all my hippi seedlings!

Is that Amputo down at the front? One of my favourites, what do you think? Hope you get on well with Lovely garden, looks a nice big clump, Ive yet to try it, but Ive promised myself that its got to be on the list for later this year.

Elizabeth...I hear yah! My little ones, a 5 and 9 year old, KNOW that mommy's flowers are "No touch!" I think and pray this weekend will be a good start to bring them all outside permanently. Until late fall anyway. Then they will be brought in the big garage to rest.
