Honeycrisp Apple Tree doesn't bloom
Comments (43)OK, we're now on the third year of the honeycrisp and there are no apples. It got only a few blooms, but no fruit developed. Meanwhile, the snow apple, which was purchased as a polinator, has a number of apples. I haven't fertilized any of my fruit trees (a peach and two cherries in addition to the apples). Maybe this is the problem with the honeycrisp. The cherries aren't producing, either, but I didn't expect them to this soon. The sweet one was decimated by japanese beetles last year and the sour is a standard not a dwarf or semi-dwarf so I expect it's got more years of growing before it produces fruit. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that and should be doing something to encourage fruiting (besides spraying, which we are doing for the first time this year). This is an extremely helpful forum. Thanks to everyone for their input. Caryl...See Morepeace lily that doesn't bloom
Comments (2)i would recomend more light..... bright indirect is ok.... i have grown mine in a southern window..... the lily may also like some more water...... mine does't like to dry out completely...... remember that the peace lily is one of the plants that can be grown with a bata fish in a bowl of water........oh and the brown edges to the leaves is either low humidity, or just plain drying out. i did have the problem myself of my lily not flowering..... but thats when i shoved it is a corner, out of the way of any significant source of light... but when i gave it a sunny location... it started up again :) good luck...See MoreWhy doesn't my butterfly bush bloom?
Comments (2)I would think the problem is not enough sun. It could also be a nutrient imbalance. Too much nitrogen relative to phosphorus and potassium can cause lots of green growth without much flowering. Pruning should not be an issue since they bloom on new wood. I cut mine down to about a foot tall in the spring. You can wait to prune until you see new growth to determine how far the die-back was in winter. Leaving it up in winter protects the plant somewhat and provides winter interest too. For me the store-bought butterfly bushes always performed poorly. They usually only lasted a year or two and never got any size to them. Then I wintersowed some seed I got in a swap and have had the resulting plants for almost 5 years now. The one in full sun shoots up to almost 7' tall every summer after cutting back to 12" in spring. It is loaded with blooms that I deadhead to keep it blooming until a hard frost. I have never fertilized it, but we do have a more clay based soil that retains nutrients. I think some of the more cultivated varieties and hybrids have probably sacrificed hardiness and vigorousness for the sake of compact size and new colored blooms....See MoreWhy doesn't my rose bloom?
Comments (0)There are a few reasons that a rose won't bloom. The rose is a young bush, or it is in the shade and needs more full sunlight( minmum or 6 hours), there is too much nitrogen in the fertilzer which causes it to grow leaves and canes at the expensive of flowers. The bud that was used to graft with was weak or not done correctly or it may just be a once blooming variety. Using a fertilizer with the middle number very high (phosphorus) such as one for tomatoes which require fertilizer instantly, will give the rose bush an electric prod....See Morejudy_b
