Amaryllis from seed outside

Please forgive my ignorance in this. I've searched the forum and it would appear that the majority use a water propagation method of starting seed. But is it possible to start Amaryllis from seed in an outdoor seedbed?

I live in the Florida Panhandle, (Zone 8A or 8B depending on which map you use). I've got an area of about 4'X 10' that is in soil that is fairly rich in organic content. The soil has been well cultivated. And the intended bed is in area adjacent to a privacy fence and receieves about 5 hours of full sun daily. Would it be possible to grow Amaryllis from seed in an enviroment such as this? If so, what steps and/or precautions should I follow when planting? If fortune smiles and I do get some seedlings will it be possible for them to winter outside? Should I mulch them? And what type of fertilizer would be most appropriate?

I'm sorry for the many questions and am appreciative of responses in advance.

Thanks,

Dave
