WS Blooms, finally have camera and computer in sync again

These where blooming before they got in the ground.

Livingston daisy. just love those bright, bright colors. Hubby calls them "the electric neon things". The camera doesn't do them any where near the justice they deserve.

I certainly The blue-ing towards purple of the dark red Austins as a great quality. Strange but it is considered a bad trait in Hybrid teas. This blue-ing or even deepening of the dark red to almost regal purple is really beautiful in OGRs and Austins. It makes them blend in so well together with OGR where a bright red would be to LOUD. francie12 is right LDB does meet the coolor wish of the original poster mauirose. It is a red rose that darkens to sometimes even a dark blackish red. They have a good scent in quality, but very few who have have noses for roses will state that this rose is "so dangerously well scented that grown men drown". And I have never seen a well grown LDB, it is stingy with blooms. In the public park in the city they planted big beds of Austins (LDB, Fallstaff, and WS 2000) it does not take a rose expert to see which rose produces most flowers ... WS 200 wins. All the LDBs I have seen seen produces 5-10 roses in each "flush" LOL.....That is if they do not turn into one cane wonders over the years. It is one of the few roses you plant as with 3 canes when it comes as bare root plant and the number of canes will actually decrease as the years go by... So I would love to see a picture of a well grown specimen of LDB. It will be a first! I saw Darcey Bussel on the rose fields. I do not like the scent of it and then it will never be planted in my garden. But it does produces a dark red/purple mass of flowers for those who like such a rose. It really is early to early to write a review of Munstead Wood since I have only had container grown plant since may. But it does look promising. It has shot new basals and are 2 feet tall which is a great improvement over Tradescant who in my climate rarely gets more than a feet tall. And it begins shooting new laterals before the flowers at the end of the canes have are done blooming. It is sort of a mix between Tradescant and WS 2000. The flowers are refined and have a wonderful scent similar to WS 2000. But they are not very large. So I canÂ´t say something bad about Munstead Wood Ceterum ... not yet. IMO WS 2000 is still the best Red/purple Austin ever. Carol your RR is really well grown ...I am so envious! Well done. Mauirose. I would go for WS 2000 if it has to an be Austin, especially If you also want to grow it no spray. Watered and fed well in your climate most roses will become what we refer to as low climbers anyway. I have even as I wrote seen Tradescant grown as low climber in California. But the flowers are much darker than WS 2000.

Thanks everyone, you all make me feel so good! Newbie in NJ, don't cross off the celosia...they still look great DESPITE being chewed on. You can't even tell until you get up close because they grow so densely the deer just can't keep up with the plants! I'll be growing them again next year, definitely! I had the same problem as you with most of my cosmos - except for a few bunches I had planted in front of some bushes. I guess the bunnies were too scared to get too close to whatever might jump out of the bushes to munch on them. Historically, I've not really been much of a gardener until about five years ago, but even then all of the stuff was store bought. Year before last, I tried to grow plants from seeds but it didn't work well. Then I found winter sowing and voila, I have a garden full of wonderful plants! All the nice plants in my garden are there thanks to all the folks who shared their experiences with me through this forum! Thanks again!

Yes, I actually do have a plan and while I am not there yet (are we ever done with a garden?) I feel like I am doing well in terms of continual waves of bloom. I have a few spring flowering bulbs here to start things off. I plan to put in lots more this fall. Going for crocus, Daffs and tulips. Then I have many spring flowering trees and shrubs such as serviceberries, crab apples, cherries and many types of viburnums. That takes me into Azealea flowering season and very shortly after the azealeas finish, the roses start their spring flush. Next come lily bulbs as the asiatic lilies start soon after the spring rose flush. Then the oriental lily bulbs. This year I added even more lily bulbs than last years 400 bulbs of all oriental and asiatic. This year lots of trumpets, orienpets and OT and LA hybrid lilies. All new to me as I used to have only asiatic and oriental. But I added some of those also. This takes me into daylily blooming time and some of the lilies and daylilies will be blooming at the same time. This brings me into August and I don't know how much bloom for august as I have added many late flowering daylilies last fallm should bloom late July and early august. There should be some late flowering lily bulbs also. For fall, well nothing unless daylilies rebloom. I have also been working on more bloom before the start of the daylilies and lily bulbs by planting lots of Siberian Iris, which blooms now here and am working to make a tall bearded iris bed for the TB iris I ordered comeing this july. Of course there are many other plants in the yard blooming at various times. I like Hollyhocks, Purple coneflowers, Butterfly bushes, Sunflowers, Mexican Sunflower, Catmint, Hummingbird mints, various milkweeds and lots of annuals such as marigolds, zinnias, cosmos, varius annual salvias, Snapdragons, impatients and more. Usually looks pretty good here.

Susie, I have searched & can't find any Avast on it. I also went into the folders. I just did a search on this one & there is quite a bit Norton leftover on it still. AVG is on too & was working when I stopped using this one. I hope to have another one Monday if everyone would just get well..I don't drive (never learned) & all my rides are truly sick. Cat, I think I will try the XP tonite. I do know it has a LOT of problems & need to be started over..it is not worth spending $150 to do that. Nite before last I was trying to fill out a form to order something.. it took over 30 minutes to do it.. The cursor kept freezing plus it wouldn't scroll without freezing. Some on here can vouch for all the problems I have had. If I can get it running I can at least check to see if there is anything else I want saved. I tried to keep things saved as I knew this day was coming. Yes I know now the APC is probably why it wouldn't turn on but I don't think that had anything to do with the other problems. The XP took about 20 minutes to reboot.. this 98 is very fast doing it. Thanks, Dar

Bakemom, you don't want my computer help for sure. I'm a few steps up from computer novice.

Hubby did a "mickey mouse job" to get things working so don't know how long it will last.

Told him I'm gonna buy a mac. Never have had a problem with the desk top old Imac, but the dell pc has never given a days peace and my daughter's new HP, only a week old and that one is a lemon. She's demanding a totally new computer "or else". It's 2 weeks old and the screen has been replaced, the hardrive has been replaced, the keyboard has been replaced and now they want to give her a new motherboard. I don't think so.

What sweet ducklings Fran! I love those. You must think of your mother and her gardens every time you look at them.

Your blooms are all so pretty. As Vera pointed out, many blues/purples and yellows. My favorite combos. as well. Just lovely.

Thanks for sharing your garden pics! I love the ducks, and the fact that they have sentimental value makes them even more precious.

I'm not a blue/purple flower lover, but I love the gazania. May have to try that one next year.

I bet it's exciting to see your lupine bloom. I have to wait at least until next year for those.

Great pictures, Fran! I love that gazania! I don't know if it was deliberate or not, but I seem to have a serious lack of yellow in my garden. Maybe I'm just subconsciously attracted to the pinks and blues and purples!

What a cute duck and ducklings too, I don't remember seeing them.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Mac, Fran. Love mine. As in love affair love. Take it to bed and kiss it love.

Love your ducks Fran. It must be great to have something of your mother's for your garden. The lupine looks good and healthy and full. I do like the Livingstone Daisy too. Very cute. :-)

Thanks everyone. Those ducks are special. My Mom bought the mother and 3 duckings because she had 3 kids. Then she decided she should have bought more of the ducklings to represent her 6 grandchildren.

My daughter and I went back tot he store she got them in and found 6 more and gave them to her.

That garden is full of the perennials that where in her garden and annuals from ther flowers that she had there. We decided that we shouldn't leave them in her apt garden after she passed away, she would want me, the gardener to have them.

Will post more pics of that garden in another thread.
