Snow damage to Star Magnolia.

User

So, after the recent freak snowstorm in October, I thought my magnolia trees had not been damaged. Ironically, the Southern Magnolias were fine but the deciduous, northern, Star Magnolia was damaged. I love this tree! If I cut the damaged branches, will it recuperate and eventually develop a more balanced form? This poor tree puts up with so much--it's been repeatedly rutted by deer over the years and still looked great--until last week. Thanks in advance.
