It wasn't my fault!

And I'm hugely relieved! I bought a Fargesia murielae about 4 years ago. It did well for a year, then began to decline. I tried everything, moving it, giving it more water, less water, more sun, less sun, fertilizer, no fertilizer, putting it in a container, planting it in the ground. NOTHING helped. It slowly and steadily died. Last Fall I pulled it up and replaced it with a clearance hardy Hibiscus ($1.00) from Lowe's.

THEN I found out that F. murielae was going through a worldwide programmed die-out, just like it was supposed to. It WASN'T anything I did, or didn't do!

I bought a Fargesia rufa 'Green Panda' and planted it a couple of weeks ago. It's doing fine, and putting out new growth. I hope it lasts a decade or so before hitting the programmed die-out stage.
