But I do hate watering and dealing with weed issues in the lawn. I do it anyway, but not without a glass of chay chay. I think I might get a lawn service.

I don't do anything with my daylily. They started flowering 2 weeks ago and will flower till frost. By that time, I will collect seeds. The spent flowers just falls to the ground.

I don't like watering either. I never seem to be either awake or home at the "right times" to water. So now I just water whenever I think of it...

Weeding doesn't bother me, except for the NATS that are everywhere this year!!!!

I don't like building things... my compost bin is still on DH to do list, and I haven't even got materials for trellises! I may just let the tomatoes and squash run around in the yard...lol

I don't mind weeding, and end result of keeping up with it for a few years is I have just a few, I don't ever let any set seed. OK, rarely let any set seed :)

I don't like chores involving spraying and try to avoid it. I've gone a few seasons without regularly spraying roses and this year have a lot of blackspot so am back to spraying again but unhappily.

Other than that, I'm pretty content doing whatever needs doing outside (over inside) as long as the weather cooperates and it isn't cold or wet. Which brings me to Fall leaf cleanup...in this mild climate the leaves can hang on for a very long time, until Fall rains begin and I almost never have dry leaves to pick up or rake, I'm in boots and a coat with cold hands.

I don't deadhead either. It's way too much work, and I save seeds too. And no fair that we can't say weeding cause I was going to say the two tasks I dread the most are weeding and weeding.

Actually, now that I think about it, one thing I really dread the most is just figuring out where to put plants in the beds. Will this look good next to this? I just know it's not going to work out. I love winter sowing, and in the past I have made plans that I then totally ignore. I have no eye for design. I hate doing the plunk and run, but then that's how I end up with stuff growing too big for their pots, or being stunted cause I didn't get it in the ground.

Or -- sometimes I end up redoing entire beds and shuffling all the plants around. I make a lot of extra work for myself that way.

I would hate spraying the most if I did it, but I don't. Most of my roses look pretty awful by end of summer, except for the ones that are blackspot-resistant for me.

My second-most hated chore is digging up all the black walnut seedlings planted by the squirrels every year. They get those things into the dangdest places, waaaay under bushes, or in the middle of my flowers.

weeding, weeding , weeding, weeding... But for me, they're not actual weeds but rather reseeding flowers. I've spent the entire spring doing just that. By the time I finish, the first areas are covered again with verbena bonariensis, digitalis, rudbeckias, nigella, gaillardias, etc. Doesn't feel like I'll ever catch up or deplete the seed bank already in my soil. My approach now is to weed out an area and mulch it immediately. And I'm really going to attempt to deadhead more.

Second one I dread is watering I guess.

hmmmmm I dread anything that I have to do continuously for too long. So I'm typically out doing this, then that, then another thing. So it appears as though nothing gets done very fast, until it's all done.

Wait, no I can't really say "done" because in my gardening I'm never done (and I love that about gardening).

Otherwise, I guess the thing I dread most is Sunday evenings when it's time to come in and clean up before the work week. Or achy muscles from a long weekend of gardening my butt off ;)

I hate weed-whacking around the beds. My son mows the lawn, but doesn't do the weed-whacking. Often I just use my hand-clippers around the edges while I weed, but I hate doing it either way.

I also hate edging. I use trench edges because I've yet to find a nice-looking edge that really works. The trench edge really does look nice, but needs so much upkeep.

I hate pulling all the creeping weeds and maple and oak seedlings.
Oh and dealing with bugs, any of them. Although especially aphids and slugs.

Winding up the 200 ft hose when I'm done watering. I don't mind watering (or weeding) but I hate winding back up that heavy hose. Another thing I hate, hauling heavy compost all over the yard with the wheelbarrow. Have a riding mower, but it's one of those zero turn mowers, and it's light in the front and not so great with a trailer of something heavy, it tips backwards on its back wheels. The boyfriend rigged up a hitch on it, since none are to be found for this type of mower, and know why. When he used it to haul his jet ski trailer out from the backyard last year, he ended up pulling a wheelie. LOL!

I love watering, but I hate hooking up the hose and then winding it back up! I have to hook up the hose in the bathroom, and then run it through the hallway, around the corner, and then through the living room, and finally, out the patio door. The other option is running the hose through the hall and in through my son's room, over the bed and then out his window...

Ohhhh! What I wouldn't do for an outside hook up!!

The other chore I hate is waiting. Waiting for sprouts, waiting for seedlings, waiting for buds, blooms, veggies .... it's just too much darn waiting!!

Picking bag bugs off the pine trees...disgusting...and no matter how long you stay on one tree look back while you're walking to the next tree and you'll SEE MORE ON THE TREE YOU JUST THOUGHT YOU FINISHED .gggr!

Rolling up the hose! (sorry, Nancy, shouldn't complain huh?)

I don't mind taking the hose/reel and watering but I did hate have to lean down to the ground to turn the water on, so I had a plumber come in 2 years ago and raise all the spickets up to 18 inches high.

" normal" weeding is not the cause here this year, May was only 3 days without rain and June today is only the third day if it doesnt rain tonight. It's all you can do to keep up with the mowing and weeding/weedwacking.
I have pulled enough prickly lettuce to serve a 1,000 people, lol.

1) Finding and killing slugs.

2) Keeping deer, rabbits, groundhogs, chipmunks from eating almost anything.

I'd gladly pull weeds, deadhead, lug watering cans all over and any of the rest if these miserable creatures would leave something to bloom.

They seem to like anything nonlethal I spray.

Forget about a "tomato cage" to hold plant up. We're into plant "prison" territory with chicken wire on top of rabbit fence circles to keep everything and anything from eating various plants.

Looks like Folsom prison annex at my father's and things are getting eaten right and left.

Weeding and dividing hard to divide, tangled, stubborn perennnials. We are getting public water hooked up to our street (we've been on wells) and they plowed through one of my beds this week to make the connection to the house. Hostas tossed about and while they were "out" I figured I'd split and rearrange them even though I don't think this is the time to do it. Well I felt like I was wrestling a polar bear for 20 minutes - so hard to cut through and seperate. Really reminded me that I could use some exerises to build upper body strengh!!!

I'm with the group who hates to rewind the many feet of hose, I have 150' to rewind and it is heavy! Also hate to dig up and move a plant, this fall I will need to do that to 7 large ones that I know of and maybe more. Boo-Hoo! Other than that I dearly love my many gardens and feel so grateful to have the space to create beauty. My time in the garden is work but a labor of love. Can't imagine a hobby that I could love more than gardening.

Me I hate winding up the hose after I water the plants. I love to water the plants but I hate messing with the hose afterwards. And I hate dealing with the bugs that always like to be in my face.

LOL, I've gotten so I just leave the hoses laying out, all 200 feet of them. I mean, why wind them up when I'll have to unwind them again in two days?

Actually, I've been helped with that since we've had rain for the last three weeks. My hoses have been coiled up for three weeks and running. And before that, I only watered once or twice because we had so much rain back then too.

Nancy Drew, you need to get yourself an outside faucet, lol! My goodness, I can't believe what you have to do to water! Put it on your list for Santa - and ask for it early, like, July, lol!
