Tanakae Bamboo Dying! Please Advise, Thanks.

Hi Boo-lovers,

I'm going to upload a picture or two of some of my large Tanakae bamboo and ask for advice on what is causing them to die. (Hope this works.)

This bamboo was planted about 1.5 years ago, as a privacy hedge, and the area is rather tight. The boo was very tall, between about 15 and 25 feet, at the time it was planted (by professional Boo dealers/planters).

The soil was "amended" by them to help offset its clayey quality. Is it possible (or likely) that the combination of clayey soil and the crampedness of the space these boo were planted in has caused some of the plants to die?

Other Questions: Will the dead plants "infect" others plants near them and cause them to die or fail?

What should we do to protect the other plants? Should we cut down the dead/dying plants? So far, one looks entirely deceased, while the other is green on one side and dead-looking on the other.

Thanks for any advice.

PS We have a couple big shoots coming up, that I'm praying will not rot or abort before they reach a nice height. (It seems like a lot of the new shoots tend to abort before they spring up and live.) Will try to post a photo of those, too, if I can figure out how to upload pix.

PPS Could not figure out how or where to upload the photos (I think it's because I'm not using Netscape/MSIE browser), so have uploaded pix to imageshack. Thanks for visiting there to see the troubled boo.
