Fantastic flowers, Cindee! I really like the Vitatum and the xJohnsonii! The red noid looks suspiciously like either Pamela or Rapido... same cup-shaped habit as they open... I wouldn't know which one it might be, or be related to, but I'd guess Pamela...

The rest of the hippis look wonderful, and I'm so glad Vera will finally be opening for you! And the rose... I can almost smell it! What a beauty!

Spring is finally in the air... I can smell the change in weather outside! I'm so happy! There are tulip, crocus and lily tips peeking up in the garden! The winter blues are lifting, and the garden is beginning to awaken!

Thanks for sharing, Cindee! Those are some real beauties you have! I can't wait to see Vera... she's made us wait a very long time!

The roses, well, I have neglected the side bed for too long. I planted, what I call a Bromeliad Brothel in the middle (my NEW passion is now broms) so now I remembered I forgot about my 4 hybrid teas. Here's a show of the Brom Brothel. Looks like a cat house to me!! lol

Cindee, I'm loving your bloomin enviroment. Does the vittatum have any scent? From what I've read and heard, it's supposed to have a fragrance that is very noticeable. =)

Cindee, that whole garden area is fabulous! It looks so neat and well-cared for! I'm not familiar with broms, but they are sure pretty when in bloom!

I was just complaining to Larry last night, on our way to get chocolate malts at Hardee's... why is it that all the cool flowers only grow in the south?! And his brilliant answer was... well, you can't have everything, you know!

And he also said... there are probably some things that southern gardens can't grow and we can, so be happy with that! He's right... Like I really needed that chocolate malt! It was sooo good, though!

The Brom Brothel is a winner, Cindee! The cat statue is a great touch... it looks purrfect there!

I have a small xJohnsonii bulb that will most likely bloom sometime this year... I can't wait to see it in person! Vittatum is one I don't have yet...

Pax, I had to run outside and stick my nose in the Vittatum...no scent. I came in and Dennis asked if a bee farted on my nose!!! I guess it was covered with pollen-hee hee

Jodi, there are sooooo many flowers my father had is his gardens when I was growing up in Michigan. Things I can never grow here in Florida with heavenly scents...Lilly of the Valley. Lillacs, Forsythia, Tulips, Daffodils and Narcissus, Hyacinths...then for color, Japenese Maples and pink Dogwood (sigh) I miss them so, but am placated with the beautiful things I can grow here, along with all the sunshine and no snow!

Cindee, Tiffy is sold. Our neighbor, the orchid lady, bought her, and she lives happily ever after with three cats.

Soultan - I hope Tiffy can hold her own with those cats! She's probably smaller than they are, the poor dear! I do hope they're nice cats!

Cindee - I know, I'm lucky to have lilacs and tulips and all the things that won't grow in southern gardens, but it just seems that my favorite plant types are ones that must grow indoors in my climate! Why did I have to develop a fondness for tender bulbs?!

Your pics of Johnsonii display it as a darker red than mine. Also the throat has more dark in it.

Can you take more pictures this year, perhaps in full daylight?

The white stripes should be purest of white, no off colored white. And the red should be a bright red and not a dark red.

Perhaps, the difference is that mine are growing in bright sunlight, in the ground, but yours looks a little different.

It could be the camera. Reds are so very difficult to photograph with most cameras.

Can you take more pictures or is it too late? Mine are just getting ready to bloom in the next week or two.

Eliz, sorry my friend. Unless it throws up another scape, Johnsonii is done for the year. It was blooming when it was overcast and shadowy, to my eye the photo IS darker than it is in person. It is a very bright red. Sorry, dear this is all I have, another side view same day.

Arif, this is a lovely form. Unfortunately, my self pollinating attempts failed. Should it present another scape, I will try other pollens and also look for pups from it. I is delightful.

I only have the one little bulb of xJohnsonii, and it hasn't bloomed yet... but I have seen photos of large patches in full bloom, and it is a sight to see! Not only is the coloring very pretty, the shape is distinct. It's definitely a special variety, and I await the day mine will bloom!

They do self, but not always successfully. Mine are outside, in the garden, and the weather does seem to have an impact on the success of pollination.

There are some also at my school. One bloomed very late when no others in the area were in bloom. I selfed it, and have seeds growing.

I have two year old seedlings of Johnsonii X Johnsonii, Amputo X Johnsonii and Johnsonii X Amputo. They are getting quite large, but I do not know if any will bloom this year.

When they bloom, I will be sure to share the results. I am definitely thrilled with these crosses!
