Question about persimmon trees

I planted 2 small persimmon trees (generic from a local nursery) about 8 years ago. they weren't marked as male or female. Every year,I hoped to see some flowers, in order to know if I would ever have fruit. I never saw any. Then I read it could take up to 10 years to have flowers. There are no other persimmon trees around. (that I know of.)

I live out in the country.

Last week, I was looking around the area and looked up towards the top of both persimmon trees (all the leaves had dropped), and each tree had little persimmons! I thought they had to have a male around?

We were in a bad drought last year and they only got watered a few times. These first fruits were only about an inch in diameter and were mostly all seed (2-3 big ones).

Is it possible to have fruit without a male? Will these fruit get bigger, so I'll eventually get some good pulp?

Thanks.
