Jodi, let's call it fake Rilona and fake Orange Souvereign. I am saving the pictures to complain to Nature Hills later when everyone's flowers are in bloom or finished, and we know the full scale of the mislabelings... Please, post your pictures of the Nature Hills flowers. So far it is 100% mislabelings, but it can change if at least one turns out true to name. So 3 out of 3 so far mislabels. Blossom Peacock turned out Nymph, your Orange Souvereign seems to turn out Vera, and your Rilona is someting beauty, but I have no idea what kind. Nice... Let's keep on hoping.

Beautiful pics as always Jodi. I agree the OS looks pretty pink! I have my first OS blooming and I keep looking at it questioning it, thinking it looks too red! (maybe since most of the reds look too orange?) Your Papilio is the best, I've never had mine with 3 flowers on a scape, didn't your exotic star also have 3/scape? (Whatcha feedin'em Jodi?)I also really like the Lovely Garden- wish I had that or a supreme one- save seeds, maybe we could trade? Always enjoy your photos...

Congratulations on your beautiful jungle!

Rilona and Orange Souvereign are not at all what I would have anticipated... This has been an odd year for labeling woes.

From the look of my Nature Hills 'Piquant' it will be opening next week. The bulbs look very light colored.

Wow Jodi, your jungle keeps growing and getting more beautiful and jungle-looking!!! All those flowers and green leaves have to be helping in keeping away the winter-blues (greys?).

It is such a joy to see photos. They help me to decide which ones I would like -and add to an every increasing want list! Also it helps me see the differences in flowers of the same cultivars to see how the environment/cultivation affect them. Do you think that different suppliers have different clones of the same cultivar? It is so hard to comprehend that not only color but flower shape/size can be influenced by environment. Have you seen differences in the same cultivar, bought from different vendors?

You're right, Soultan... Rilona isn't Rilona, but I don't know what to call it! And Orange Sovereign is a bit more salmon colored in person, so I doubt it's really OS... might that be the Rilona? I must say, though, that these mislabels are very beautiful, and I'm not disappointed in them at all... it would be nice, though, if companies told you that they didn't have what you wanted, or even if they told you they weren't sure about labeling, and you were buying at your own risk.

Out of the four, Papilio Butterfly and Amigo were definitely labeled correctly! They were/are just wonderful! The Rilona and the Orange Sovereign do not appear to be correctly labeled.

Salpal - I feed MiracleGro liquid houseplant food at a diluted rate, and add a few drops of Superthrive to the water every once in a while... nothing special! Yes, my Exotic Star had more blooms than is considered normal, also... I think it's just luck, and I got some very decent bulbs! I hope they will repeat that over-the-top performance next time around! Email me regarding a seed trade!

Jody - I think there can be definite, although subtle, differences within a variety depending on grower and grower's environment, and buyer's environment... and we're also dependent upon our photography to be accurate in depicting color... at this time, I only have one bulb of each variety, so I can't comment on different vendors having differences... but just from what I've seen here on the forum, it appears that there are little differences from grower to grower... or supplier to supplier... which ever may be the case.

I love the fact that you are taking steps to correct the mislabeling, but also, you are so accepting of the beautys you do get! Thank you for the lovely compliment, Beetle! I have yet to meet a hippeastrum that strikes me as ugly, so I keep an open mind... I think I'm more taken with the unexpected beauty... it's like opening a present that you didn't know you were getting!

I'm sorry to hear that you've been blue... spring is very close now, and watching the earth come back to life always cheers me up... winter is very depressing for me, but as soon as the buds appear on trees, and things begin to turn green, I begin to come back to life, too! I hope spring will cheer you up, as well! :-)

Hi Jodi girlfriend! As always, you jungle looks so great. I guess you and I have the same situation with a mislabeled Rilona. Your's looks very similar to Romance. I have one that's bloomed a few days ago.

Jodi, your jungle is beautiful! =) Everything looks happy and beautiful! =) I see that your mislabeled Rilona is from Nature Hills as well! Oh geez, my mislabeled Blossom Peacock was from there too! I also ordered Ferrari from them and Ferrari is a couple days from blooming but from the looks of the tips of the buds, I wouldn't be shocked if this was another mislabeled! :/ I think we have another M&Z situation in our hands.

Jodi, I have what is supposed to be Desire, that might be your fake Orange Souverein. The thing is, I am not sure my Desire is correctly labled! Mine started out almost as Orange as My very intense Orange Souverein, but has turned to a softer Salmony orange as time goes by.Here it was just opening{{gwi:386873}},{{gwi:391434}},{{gwi:391436}}. IN the second and third pics Desire is on the left and Orange Souverein on the right.

I only wish mine looked like that, Lizalily! Mine is decidedly different! It's a very light orange with a white star and a light green eye... I like it, but it's not Orange Sovereign and it's not Desire. I honestly don't know what to call it! I'll try to get a photo taken and posted today...

Lora - You're very welcome! I enjoy sharing my little alcove jungle with other gardeners... it would be a shame to grow all this beauty and not share it with the gardening world! I always enjoy touring your greenhouse and seeing what you have blooming at the moment!

Liltika - I'm very excited about the Germa! The scapes are twice as tall now, and it should begin open its blooms very soon! The green and yellow flowers are my all-time favorites in the world of blooms, and these should be a nice yellow! I'll be sure to post when they finally open!

Well... the Not Rilona bulb is trying to abort all the seed pods that had begun to form... the stems are dying... I cut them off and stuck them in water, hoping for a miracle! The pods are almost fully formed, so I'm hoping they'll stay alive long enough to complete seed formation inside. Time will tell if my ploy is successful...

WOW! Lizalily, think you just provided the name of a bulb I purchased at the local grocery store a few weeks ago. It looks just like Desire, with all those leaves at the same time as the blooms. And I, too, have it next to Orange Souvereign, which does look exactly like yours.
Jodi, always enjoy a stroll through your beautiful jungle. I get annoyed when things are mis-labeled, but like you, don't think there is such a thing as an ugly Hippi. Wish I could get around to posting my pics.

Kitty, the 2nd stalk of Desire came up even prettier with a lovely ripe apricot color on a tall sturdy stalk of 4 very nicely shaped flowers. They are lasting a long time and I enjoy them more every day! I hope yours do as nicely!

Thanks, Kitty! It would be wonderful if every bulb were labeled correctly, but the odds of that happening are just not realistic. There are bound to be some with the wrong tags. Since they're all pretty, it's like getting a surprise!

The Not Orange Sovereign is on its third scape, and it's very beautiful... and the Not Rilona is sending up a third scape, as well! So, both mislabels are very prolific! I would not have imagined that I'd be enjoying flowers in early March! But thanks to Soultan, I'm still in Hippi Heaven! This is awesome!

They're both beautiful, Kitty! Lovely shapes, and the color is a nice dark orange! I'm no expert, but I think yours are labeled correctly!

Mine are so much lighter in color... although, they are very pretty! The Not Rilona is pink with white stripes, sort of... and the Not Orange Sovereign is a light orange with a large white and green eye, however, its last scape was darker in color than the previous ones... the Not Rilona hasn't opened its final scape yet, so it could be a bit darker, too...

Which variety do you have opening... on the right in the last photo? It looks nice from the side!

I have two Desires from Royal Colors, and they were both way lighter in color than the one you call Desire. Desire should be a light salmon color mixed with cream. It is kind of a pale orange-salmon. Yours is way too vivid for that. I would say it is an Orange Souvereign as well from another grower or even from another continent possibly, hence the slight difference between the two flowers.

Here is a pic of Desire borrowed from kisfecske. I did not take pictures of mine, but fortunately, I can borrow this picture from a friend. Desire is almost like Rilona, with more orange hue.

Well, if that is Desire it is aptly named as I do Desire it! THe one I bought is either misnamed or not a prime specimen. I like it a lot but yours looks more ruffly and with more of a white background. Mine is a nice color the color of lox but without the cream cheese....

Thanks Soultan. I stand corrected. I was just going by Lizalily's picture above, and the fact that there are so many leaves with the scape, because I don't know what it is. Well, whatever it is, it performed very well. Yours is just beautiful.
