Datura and Moonflower
Comments (2)FWIW, I've always known Moonflower as a fragrant Ipomea vine (in the morning glory family) - looks like a white morning glory but a night-bloomer, not early morning. Growing some right now......See Moregrowing datura from seeds
Comments (39)We have a double purple datura plant this year and has produced many blooms. So far we do not see any seed pods. Does anyone know why or what to expect? Also something is eating holes in the leaves of these and our white datura plants. So much so that they are not growing and will not produce any white flowers this year. What can we use to prevent pests on moonflower plants. None of our other plants are affected....See Moregrowing moonflowers indoors?
Comments (16)I have grown moonflowers for the first time this year in indoor windowboxes. I was quite happy with the results, and although all my blooms are finished now, I had many blooms over the last summer months. An important note, though, the sunlight does have to be quite high. I originally planted 2 boxes, but the second, more shaded box only had two blooms, and only where it had trailed over the the neighboring boxes trellis before I could notice and separate them. This may have been due to other factors, as the successful box was actually transplanted from the first when I got a very unexpected 100% germination rate! Way too many plants for the tiny space, so perhaps the little bit of stress on their roots during the move galvanized them to grow quicker and fuller. Either way, good luck on your indoor endeavors, hope they are as successful as mine....See Moretrying the moonflowers inside again
Comments (17)Here are two more buds, they are both growing at the same time! I will either have two that bloom together or close to the same time, I am so happy that I had one bud bloom, I was not expecting more. I guess my grandmother did leave me her green thumb! Thanks grandma!!! God bless her soul, she was a great influence in my life and I sure do miss her when a particular flower gives me trouble, she was someone I could go to when I had a plant question. I know she would have loved the moonflower bloom....See Morephoenixryan
