Such lovely seedlings. I seemed to have a lot of containers that only had one or two seedlings in it. I was a little disappointed as I was expecting overflowing seedlings from my containers like many I've seen on here. Who knows why some seem to sprout every seed and others don't.

I'm jealous of your heuchera :) I'm debating whether or not to purchase some heuchera seeds from Thompson and Morgan's half-price sale. Your African daisy seedling looks happy. Mine are still alive, but look sulky. It's been hot for a while and they don't look like they've grown at all. My hibiscus militaris is starting to come along.

That is super fast growth for your nasturtium! I have fallen in love with nasturtiums. I've got them interspersed in various beds because they're so easy, dependable, and bloom so fast.

Do you know how much space cleomes take up? I've got one left to plant out and am trying to decide the best place for it. It's one I potted up individually, and it is quite large in the pot already compared to other seedlings.

Those Cypress Vines seedlings are quite unique looking. I'm looking forward to more pictures of those as they grow.

Actually Mo_girl Nasturtium were one of the last to germinate this year. This here one is from Jewel Mix and it germinated May 11 and just got planted...thats SLOW! The Empress of India has 1 weak seedling and the Tip-Top Velvet has done nothing. All of them were sown on April 16th. In total all I have is only 4 of these Jewel Mix 1 from Empress of India...I'm sad LOL!

The African Daisy is in a spot that is VERY rocky/sandy and in full sun. I know it's not the same as the Venidium species of AD but I sure hope it likes the same growing conditions.

Personally I've never gotten Cleome to grow like it should. My first time they got swallowed up by mature plants and last year they had space but were stunted all season. This year I planted the seedlings in better amended soil. I believe these can grow as much as 3-4' across and from 4-5' tall. I didn't give them that much room so I guess I'll find out soon! I'm going to get a hold of the native from out this way called Rocky Mountain Bee Plant which is probably better suited to our drier conditions and soil...Cleome serrulata. It doesn't smell good and is known as Stink Flower, but it attracts lots of pollinators.

Cypress Vine just died out on me last year, but so far this year they look much healthier :D

I had my share of poor germination and 0 germination is several containers too. Salvia's for me have always been poor expect of for Salvia officinalis (re-seeds too) and annual S. hormonium (re-seeds sporadically). Yvonne's never germinated for me last year and this year I had to sow a few times to get these ones. Also had poor germination (between 1 and 6 sprouts, but mostly in between) with all the Celosia (Value Seed and trade), Amaranthus tricolor (trade), Calendula (Value Seed and trade), Scabiosa (sown twice; my own), Ageratum (Value Seed), Gazania (trades), Datura (white), Dahlia (trade), Lupine (trade), Malva (trade) and annual Verbena, burgundy.
I had 0 percent germination in Datura 'Golden Queen' (Value Seed), Monopsis debilis (Value Seed), Cosmo, dwarf white (trade), Profusion Zinnia (my own), Beaudry's Giant Zinnia (trade), Prairie Dropseed (trade), Silver Feather Grass (commercial trade), Cuphea ( Value Seed), Lab Lab (trade) and Sweet Pea (Value Seed).

becky!! i'm wondering what kinda soil ya used?? and sometimes if it was from trade it might not have been a good seed, it could have been a hundred different reasons!! i had many that didn't come out good also, but the one's that did were awesome!! those little rugrats of mine, now they did awesome on wintr sowing!! let me tell ya!! i think for me the lesson learnt was to leave them in some type of open container. them ones sprouted early and great!! what started out as regular cups with seeds in them for on the porch in the winter, but ended up being put outside, nothing over them just set outside, inside crates, like the milk ones. now all of those turned out great!! i only had to cut out the bottoms of like 10 out of 200 and put them in a location to grow if they wanted to. versus i think 15 containers out of not even close to 80. so i'd say theirs by a long shot did much better!! and i must say these were all from trades. also i used stay green soil, that helped alot, i did try the miracle grow, that wasn't so great. not for us. or my taste. then we found this stuff and i tell ya i could just play in this all day. hubs found it with aqua control the best ever!! now thats all i ever use! i get it at lowes for 10.97 i think. in 3 cu ft.

I totally misunderstood your label for that nasturtium picture ... maybe read it too fast. I thought you planted the seed two days ago, and it already looked like that, lol. It seemed incredible it would grow so big in two days, but you are Vera after all ;)

Maybe I should rethink planting cleome right by the back door if its scent is a bit undesirable. Mine is Cleome Rose Queen, so it may not be as stinky. Maybe I'll give the foliage a sniff later and see if it's noticeable.

No, this Cleome hassleriana (that you have and I have) does not stink...sweetly scented. The species that I was describing (Rocky Mountain Bee Plant) is a different species of Cleome and does stink...Cleome serrulata!
