In search of the perfect patio tree

laperouse

This may be a tall order, but these are the characteristics I'm looking for in a tree that will dominate my entrance area (which also serves as a court yard with perennials and bulbs:

1. 25-30 feet tall

2. no more than 25 feet spread

3. vase-shaped (you must be able to walk under it in close proximity)

4. not shallow-rooted as it must share area with perennials 6' from trunk

5. relatively fast-growing

6. attractive and fragrant spring blooms

7. good fall colour

8. resistant to gypsy moths (the former tree - an apple tree was killed by them)

9. interesting bark for winter interest

  1. some kind of fruit although not necessarily edible
  2. full sun

Is this too much to ask of a tree? If you can think of a match, please let me know. Or at least most of them. Thanks so much.
