Comments (6)Of course, I asked someone to take my photo, and I saw them with camera in hand, but apparently they only held the button down half-way to focus, and not snap the photo! I have a photo of the set up with all the empty chairs!! I have contacted the one lady who was taking photos to see if she would share a photo with me so I have proof (for myself) that I really did this! There were over 50 attendees...I think 57...and they went from my talk to a "Making a Fall Wreath". Ahhhh.....I can't wait to be a retired lady of leisure (it will drive me nuts!!) It really was fun. I had my 2 huge HD bulbs as demos and just peeled away those layers...actually, it was a great way to hide being a little nervous...picking away at the bulb! Really a nice group! ...and me and my cooler of bulbs! Guess I'll have lots of hippis in beds in the front yard...if I can keep the pesky girls 2 doors down who love to come and pick flowers from my yard. They are worse than the squirrels!! :-) K...See MoreSale Amaryllis Houston area
Comments (8)Dang, we have no amaryllis avaiable on the island. I wish there a venue where I could sell them ready to bloom in the winter, LOL. My roadside stand would not do at the 22-33 degree temperatures F it has been outside all this past week! Our grocery did have some in pots but they are all one variety, a dark red. I am just going to have to order some at full price. I solved the freezing greenhouse problem by realizing that I could use the propane heater in addition to the electric when the temp is this low. It has taken most of a 5 gallon canister of propane for the past 5 nights, but kept the temp up from 46-72 at night with the thermostat for the electric set at 80 and the propane on low. Not too efficient but the temp is set to rise over nighttime freezing in a day or two. IN the meantime, my budded amaryllis have LOVED the heat!...See More2012 Best Blooms from Houston - Round 2
Comments (17)Rena, nothing I have is older in the garden than June 2010, so I'm trying to reserve judgment on them unless they do something really bad. But I pay a lot of attention to what other people says will grow well before buying. I transplanted Maryott's MANGO NECTAR to my dad's place in Arkansas because it was getting really crispy last summer, but most things I have are doing well so far. Christine, I don't think my "Bela Lugosi" is quite correct. It came from American Meadows, probably tissue cultured and not field grown. The fact that two plants of the same cultivar have different bloom seasons and colors right next to each other is a dead giveaway that something is wrong. This is one of the reasons I always buy from daylily specialists now. Funny how many Stamiles made this post...I guess my Round 1 post was more diverse. Anyone who missed it can find it linked at the bottom of the first post in this thread. Nate...See MoreRelated Professionals
