I hear ya, in the same boat here.
I'm hoping it's the last dip too, sure would be nice if the rest of my perennial gardens would "wake up"!

My area usually right on the money where temps are predicted or 1-2 degree above. Still I went and covered my newly planted tomatoes, they should snuggle pretty nicely now.
Have planted all my impatiens and begonias- hopefully they will be ok. There is another one of those chills coming right around May 15 if we are to believe Farmers Almanac.

Once again Weather Channel got it wrong. It is 46F this morning! But they still predict 40 (hence 36ish here) tonight so the blankies won't be put away just yet. I'd rather the hoopsters be overdressed than under tonight...

well I was scared when I read the subject line. Over the last few days I've planted out about 30 Salvia and am anticipating fields of lovely Salvia.
omg - last year I lost some to freeze - but then I planted them out way early.
In NJ, people normally consider Mother's Day as the safe mark. Of course that's no guarantee.
So I checked the weather sites. I usually drop the temps by 10 degrees between where I live and where I garden. So going by that it may have gone as low as 39 in my garden, which hopefully will not damage.
soon as I get dressed will go out there.

Oh that is good to know, you are very close to me. I'll have to start covering after the drywall guy comes here. Today is working up to quite the busy schedule.

I am so worried. I carried tons of stuff into my unheated garage and covered everything I could. I'll just have to wait and see. On the same note I'm waiting for my son's flu to pass and the drywall guys will be here possibly tomorrow to start working. Whatever happened to the little things?

Weather channel says that right now 6:55 am downtown Canton is 39. Sure it is...what with all that concrete and brick buildings. Here MY thermometer says 31F and the birds are skating on the ICE on the birdbath. Yep, frozen. Brrrrr.

If your looking at this thread, Prof. Here are my hoopsters all wearing their sub-freezing attire. Looks a lot like zombie gardening. *grin* Gotta admit, folks. This tabletop WS gardening is great. Everything easy to reach and no squirrels, chipmunks, birds, etc at the containers. And lets not overlook the tidiness factor! All the do-hickies and whatcha-macallits get stowed under the tables along with all the 'wardrobe' changes. Next year's WS will be a treat because all this stuff is already made. Woo and hoo!

Oh how clever and tidy. Looks good. Mine are under an assortment of old yoga mats, the grill cover and any plastic I could find.

I don't know how cold it actually was, but all the sprouts on a bench next to the house survived, and the ones on the little back porch were covered with a sheet. I didn't lose anything. Tonight will be cold too so we'll probably do the same covering again. The earliest safe planting date here for tomatoes is June 1st.

Planted some toms today, all in all about 2/3 done. Am oing to plant rest of them on Thu. I think weather should hold.

So far this spring we've only had maybe 5 night/morning lows above 36F...and not even back to back! Starting Friday it looks like we are due to be back in the 70's (80 on Sun.)with lows steady at 40F+...apparently spring finally is here. Right on time. Our normal average last frost date is between May 11-15th, however I remember last spring covering up my tomatoes, ect. around May 26th!!

I usually plant out end of May. That just seems to take the guesswork out of the weather. With the hoopsters I can conveniently take my time to get some of them potted up and ready to rumble at the end of the month. In the meantime I can do a quick cover when frost or storm or blazing sunshine threatens. I'm growing rather attached to these hoophouses. Easiest spring ever - and with probably 50X as many seeded plants as I usually deal with. In fact, I've not bought one single potted plant yet this year!

Apparently the Almanac got it right again. Our predicted lows for the next few nights (and like Kris I'm in a cool spot here --- really in Z6 but my yard thinks it is in 5!):

Saturday: 45
Sunday: 41
Monday: 46

Guess it's a good thing I ran out of energy before planting out those basil seedlings!

Yeah, I'm counting on another cold snap (I think Monday night). They predict 41 which means maybe 35 here and I won't be surprised if the bird bath freezes over again. *sigh*

Well, it's 39 degrees here this morning. And tonight they predict going down to 37 so it'll definitely be around 30 here at my place - so another freeze. And Monday night is still looking frosty. But...after that - should FINALLY BE WARM enough to plant out annuals, etc. So very tired of wrapping everyone up.

I had taken a chance mid-week and planted out my Yvonne's salvia. So last night I had to cover them. And again tonight. And most likely Monday night. In the misty mornings my place looks like some kind of ghostly graveyard what with all the sheets and such.

Hope everyone else will make it through this cold snap. Now if someone would just SEND US SOME RAIN. We haven't had any rain for nearly 10 days and we really need some. Everyone around us gets it but it always dissipates when it gets close to Stark county. aaaarg!

I think I'm going to follow you and cover my Salvia for tonite - it sure would be tragic if I lost them after nursing them along for months.

We have another freeze warning for tonight, ugh! I did so much planting out over the weekend.

ellenr - yeah, it'd be TRAGIC if our salvias croaked this close to the goal! Hang in there! I'll keep my fingers crossed for us.

Well, I covered up everything with blankets and whatever else was at hand. I was about to come in then spied my neighbor's back stoop. There was a little plastic 'green house', flapping open and tender annuals inside. Omigosh. They went on vacation! So I hustled over with my last sheet and closed up the greenhouse and threw the sheet over it all. Hope they are going to be okay.

I hope everyone else is battened down, crossing their fingers, and hoping for the best. Cya!

'Morning all!

It's 29F here and the birds are walking across the frozen birdbath. Not only freeze, but pretty hard frost to boot. The sky is clear but I will not remove any blankies until the temps warm up. I feel confident about my 4 hoop house plants, but AM a little anxious about the salvias out in the flower bed.

It's supposed to frost again tonight. :-(

But after that....!! :-D

Ack I was busy all day yesterday and didn't even know it was frosting. I knew it was cold yesterday and all but ack. Now I need to go check on everyone. I do notice my nasturtiums in the hanging basket look fine through the window. Frost is yucky. I thought we were good for awhile and quit looking at the weather.
