MidAtlantic Asian green growing

Is there an ideal spring planting window for getting Asian greens to maturity? it so often seems hit or miss with bolting.

If my last frost date is around May 15, what is the best period to direct sow? What about sowing flats for transplant and then setting them out?

I had sowed seeds for greens in late March, anticipating setting them out 2 weeks before last frost date. Half are bolting a week later. We're having temps in the 80's and haven't even reached May 15th (last year we had a frost after Mother's Day.) I have grown them successfully before, but am not sure what the factors are that made the difference. I need a method--or I'm hoping there is one that'll work for my location (zone 6b -south central PA).
