Asian squash varieties?

My husband is from Hawaii and is of Phillipino descent. He has these squash that he grows that I don't know what they are and the seeds are getting old and not germinating well. They look like opo squash sort of but fatter at the bottom and if I remember correctly they are darker green with a bit of a paler stripe. They almost look like a cross between the opo and the fuzzy melon. Any idea what they could be so I can investigate some more? I only had one plant germinate and the squash are not producing. It is a climber and he plants it on a telephone pole or tree. Right now its about 15 feet up a mimosa tree, lol. Any help would be appreciated. They are very good. He peels the tough outer skin and scapes the seeds and spongy part out and slices them thin and uses in stir fries and soups. Thanks for any suggestions.
