trying to make last year's bulb bloom again

hi everyone!

last year I bought a bulb that i would like to bloom again now.

after it bloomed in may last year, i let the leaves stay on all summer till they were brown, i removed them and put the bulb away in a dark closet for about 2 months already. is that long enough?

and also, above the bulb is a long, thick piece (like a stalk), about 4 inches long, it's firm and green, get's thinner near the top, should i cut that shorter or not?

also, the bulb is very firm and has lots of healthy looking roots.

i hope you understand my english (i'm not american)!

amanda
