Happy Mother's Day

It's cool and rainy here - just perfect! I'm heading out to enjoy my garden. Then I plan to head to Oakland nursery to purchase some chokeberries and an evergreen that I lost in last summer's drought. Them, champagne and something on the grill!

The kids say they have a suprise and won't tell me what it is. Tomorrow, my boss is out of town, so I will go into work in the morning and check on things then it's off to Tuttle Mall to pick up our Race for the Cure shirts, then to Easton for shopping and a signature pedicure, then off to Ohio State Newark to get my son going on the move home for the summer!

I'm going to gather a bucket of gingko saplings for our swap next weekend and finish labeling all my donated plants! Wowser!

It's storming here again, cold, windy, and dreary. I'd need big boots and a wet suit to get out there today.

We made reservations to take my 83 y/o Mom to a nice (good!) restaurant for dinner today. It's not looking good, she's not doing real well. Might have to come up with a Plan B.

Jem! Thank you. I was already thinking of sharing this before reading your post. Conversation with my 16-year old today: "How come you agreed to this?" he asks. Raised eyebrow. "I know why people celebrate Mothers' Day. Why are you agreeing to do it?" he amplifies. "Because of the size of babies' noses," I reply without thinking. He raises his eyebrows. I can tell he's already starting to regret the conversation and I have to stand by my remark now lol. "Well," I explain. "They're really very small, babies' noses; very easy to pinch and it will probably only take a few minutes. Next time your mother p*sses you off, think about that for a moment." I got my husband and kids involved in doing something in the garden for me today. My son cleaned up some weeds and leaves; my daughter planted a few elephant ear bulbs; and my husband helped me remove and relocate one of my hostas. The removal of the hosta was quite difficult and hard work. But it got done, and I am looking forward to seeing whether the hosta likes its new location. Helping me with garden work is one of the best gifts they can give me!

Happy Mother's Day to all! I wish I could quote him exactly, but our minister said something along the lines this morning of recognizing the countless ways that women "mother", whether they are sisters, aunts, daughters, wives, friends, or yes, moms. As one who has no biological children, that really spoke to me and made me feel truly included. I hope each of you has felt the love of those that you "mother" today as well.

My son texted me this morning and I was pretty shocked he even thought about it or knew the day. lol My daughter texted me later and offered to make me food tomorrow but she works later in the evening and so I suggested we go see a movie, on me. No movies playing that early in the day, probably because of Covid. The theaters are opening but only for a few hours in the late afternoon/evening. So we are having lunch before she goes to work. She said she felt bad that she couldn't "take me out on the town" but I told her I just wanted her company. I'm not big into all the commercialized holiday stuff anyway.

I too hope all goes well with your Mom and that a little special gets into her day.

Rainy and really windy here. Wind warnings are continued. Very unusual for May for us.

Just a quite day doing this and that and a poop load of laundry. :O) I was treated to lobster last night and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Probably sow more seeds of annuals and after the rain clears walk the dogs which I enjoy doing.

Oh, it's not so bad. Mom is 83, terribly arthritic, with spinal stenosis. She gets shooting pains going down her legs, and her legs are very weak. She has to walk with a walker. Some days are worse than other, some weeks worse than others. I'm going to schedule her for another epidural steroid injection soon which usually helps for a couple of months or so.

As of now, she says she'll try to go out to dinner. We never know until the time comes. Going to her apartment (in a retirement cntr) later for a drink, give her a gift, then out to dinner I hope.

My guys gave me an early gift yesterday. It's a shovel that is about 2' long and kind of pointed on the end. Just perfect for moving small plants.

Today, my DH is cooking me salmon and scallops on the grill. Yum, yum!

Hey Bakemom, we (Rocky Mountain Gardening forum) are having our swap next weekend too! It's over 200 miles each way for me, so it's not about the free plants, but about spending time with gardening friends. I can't wait! The trip is part of my Mother's Day gift.

Happy Mothers day to everyone! Hope you got some gifts related to your gardens! I got spoiled with great stuff this year - my son gave me a nice tube of that too expensive to buy but wonderful as a gift (smile) Crabtree and Evelyn "Gardeners Hand Therapy". Hands are looking pretty rough, so it was very much appreciated!

DDDDH came through with this sit upon garden scooter/cart that is really sturdy in cast metal with an adjustable seat like those old time tracters had - wide and it turns to accomadate all the "moves" I make when planting out. I do all my gardening from a sit on cart cause I have bad knees, so this replaces half broken plastic ones I have. This is a cadillac! Ok, so I'd torn the ad out of a catalog and left the page on my bulletin board (very subtle..)but if he's gonna buy something, might as well be something I want/need (or he get something silly I DON'T need, like earrings!)

Shared M-day with my son's confirmation, so we had the whole family out for a BBQ - nice. Sun held all day and once everyone packed up (around 6pm), I still had some time in the garden!

Taking a day off from work tomorrow to do some major planting out. Hope it warms up soon - everything planted out so far looks so tiny!

Happy Mother's Day ladies!

It was quite a beautiful day here! I slept in till 9AM, spent the morning in the garden, and then my daughter made me a late breakfast. Then I spent the rest of the day outside, came in for dinner, and am now watching the NHL playoffs with my kids. Perfect day - gardening and hockey, lol - and of course, my kids.

I got lots planted out today - all my snaps, most of my sunflowers, all my alyssum and sweet william. I planted some WSown plants from LAST year which overwintered in pots in my garage, and got some other chores done, as well as potting up some WSown annuals.

I needed to balance my checkbook, but decided that can wait another day - that's not something I want to do on a special day, lol!

Hey Bakemom.. My daughter lives in Columbus. She told me that there was a tornado warning. That it was spotted at 161 and Sawmill and moving east. That would be in your path to Newark. I hope your trip went ok.
