Planting out seedlings - now I have slugs

I planted out my first seedlings this week, salvia, and when I checked them yesterday there were very tiny slugs on and around them. I picked off all I could find but I'm sure there will be more. They weren't much bigger than a grain of rice.

What's the best way to get rid of those without harming my seedlings?

I didn't have any trouble with slugs getting into my containers, just now that I'm planting them out.

After reading about Trudi's pickled slug loving dog, I don't think I want to put out beer. It might attract my neighbor's huge free-range dogs and they would trample my babies. And I don't have any beer.

I DO already have vermiculite and perlite so I'm wondering if either of those would work.
