The wave hit here!!! I see GREEN!

I have green~~~I have green~~~~ I'm so happy, I'm hooked for good!!!

We worked outside ALL day, needless to say my face is bright red from the sun :) I started to WS this morning, stopped in the middle of it and went outside (couldn't pass up the beautiful weather, it was like coming out of hibernation). We did a quick lasagna bed (just cardboard & wood chips) on half of the bed and ran out of oomph!! I know I'll sleep good tonight!

Sweet! I noticed my dianthus sprouted yesterday, it's so nice to finally see green in those jugs, isn't it?

Hi All, This is my first year wintersowing. Last year doesn't count because I just threw a bunch of seeds in a prepared container thinking that this Wintersowing thing doesn't work. Was I surprised. When Spring rolled around and I had seedling popping up. Of course, I didn't know what the seedling were because I had gotten the seeds at a garden get-together and didn't bother to write it on the container. Right now, I've got several thing sprouting in NC - eyeball plant, black poppies, soapwort and portulaca. All of these seeds came from various seed swap here on GardenWeb. So thanks all for making this a successful Winter Sowing year for me!

Girl I so want tomato sprouts!!! to me that is the wave of green here. figure 4//7 they will appear out of the jugs. 20 here tonight so no sprouts wanted yet. Thinking of ways to get early corn this year. ml

I just started my wave petunias...hopefully they will germinate quick... I have over 200 lavender plants about 3 inches tall under my grow lamp. Wave's are suppose to germinate in 7-14 days if I remember correctly...never tried these from seed, and yes they were 3 bucks for a dozen seeds...Still substantially cheaper... Can't wait to load up on lavender and completely fill up my conifer/rhododendron garden. Blacklab

I don't watch GMA, but I guess they are going to different cities to film the more spectacular displays. Most cities do them the day after Thanksgiving, so they have them re-create it. They did it at 4 a.m. here so it was "live" at 7:00 eastern time. People have been talking about it here for weeks. I think they estimated 20,000 people would show up for it. That's almost the population of the whole town. LOL

Congratulations, Shasta! Be sure to post pictures of that lasagna bed once all the wintersown sprouts have been planted out.

I'll be checking mine tomorrow for sure.

When you get ready to plant out your seedlings,will you add other things besides cardboard and woodchips?

I made a couple of beds yesterday,cardboard shredded leaves and lot of coffee grounds,can i plant in that alone?
Do i need to add soil?Thanks,

poppies, carnations, lupines and maltese cross, really did not ck the well, but very excited, it worked.

congrats shasta! Your jugs look so nice and neat and I must mention that when looking at your new lasagna bed it finally hit me about how to make the edge nice and neat! duh!! I like the nice trench that you dug to separate the bed from the grass.

(I got my first sprouts yesterday! :) I couldn't look too well as I have a terrible head cold and couldn't bend over very well without feeling like my head was going to explode, but I did manage to see some tiny sprouts in the jug of bachelor buttons!!) YAY

Carol- I didn't have coffee grounds or leaves, all I did was lay cardboard down and soak it & threw wood chips on the cardboard. Someone here told me I could still plant, I would have to dig a hole through the cardboard which is fine with me. I'm thinking of putting all of my zinnias in here and my perennials way out back. The wood chips are fresh, I hope they don't harm the plants!

Me too!!!! First year for this and I have to say that already I know I will do it every year. Soooo much better than messing around starting stuff inside.
