Here's my list. And then I'm done. Seriously. I MEAN IT THIS TIME!

And that's it. I'm hoping to get 'em done this week, one night after work. If not, this weekend. For sure. I mean I SERIOUSLY need to stop this nonsence already. My husband has BANNED ME from the garage, 'cause I keep stealing all his plastic containers for storing odds and ends!

Not to mention, all this winter sowing is fine and good. But I seriously need to devote some time to what IS already cookin' in the garden beds.

I've also been requested to allow access to the kitchen sink...for stuff other than moistening potting soil. :oP

PH-LEASE. Like he can't rinse out his coffee cup w/ the garden hose. *eye roll*

What have you people done to me????

What" left? Too much. I just can't walk by a seed rack without something following me home. I have one last order coming from Valuseeds. I will never be done. If I sowed all the seeds I had, It would take me all spring, summer and fall. Then I would still have plenty more to sow next winter. Somebody save me! Help!!!!!Whats that I hear? There is a seed sale? Where? I have to have more. And then, next month there are 2 large plant sales that I must buy from. Last year, I bought so many plants, I had to make 2 trips because they all wouldn't fit in my car. Thank G-d I have 5 acres. I can always make more beds.

lots in the seed box left! cosmos, alyssum,marigolds, sweet peas,another sowing of sunflowers,( I sow for a month for continued bloom) freesia, basil, clover, wildflower mix, cabbage, cauliflower, beans, squash, melons, poppies, swiss chard, gourds and pumpkins, zea maize and sweet corn. So far Mom nature has been friendly to me for warmer days to clear the areas for renovation of gardens. I looked at last years black mulch delivery, that was April 22nd. This year I already have scallions, red and white onins, red and white potatoes and broccoli in the ground. Hope it doesn't heat up real fast because I have a huge pile of wood chips to chip up, may order the mulch coloring and borrow the neighbors concrete mixer to make my own colored mulch. I really want to have enough time to make rhubarb leaf stepping stones and more colored glass totems and hangy things.

Susan, Oh, okay, I don't know what I was thinking that you had started them indoors. I'm hoping that I'll get a head start on them this way. I didn't plant quite all of them yet because I wasn't sure if I was starting them too early. Now that our last frost date is about two months from now (April 15), I suppose that I could start the rest inside. My problem is that I ran out of containers and will have to go get some more. I have all of my individual one and two-gallon ones used with my swamp milkweed started outside, and the smaller individual ones have butterfly weed and tropical milkweed in them. Then I also have 3 flats (72 in a flat) with swamp milkweed in two of them started outside and butterfly weed in the other one. Then I also have butterfly weed and tropical milkweed started in cups. I probably am up to close to 300 milkweed plants here, assuming that the seeds all germinate (I put two in each container), and I'm not even done yet. lol Of course, then there's the Chelone glabra, Zizia aurea, Zizia aptera, Heraculeum maximum, Foeniculum vulgare azoricum, and Angelica atropurpurea seeds from you that I have winter sown. I started some snapdragons inside, Blazing Star Liatris, also Agastache foeniculum and Blue Fescue (I suppose I could have winter sown those last two). I'll direct sow my lupines, zinnias, cosmos, and dill. There, I think I remembered everybody. :) I want to try to locate a small spicebush around here. I wonder if there'd be any harm in digging one out and relocating it here at the edge of our yard next to the woods? A sassafras tree would be nice too. Of course, I'm thinking about other plants for next year...I'd even plant a paw paw tree if I knew that I could get ZST up here, but my Butterflies Through Binoculars book shows their range ending around the southern border of PA. There are so many different kinds of butterflies that I'd like to attract here, but I don't think I want to dig up our whole backyard. :) It's snowing a lot here right now. Schools let out at noon today and have already cancelled for tomorrow. I suppose the weather will soon clear up out your way. Come on spring! Cathy

That sounds great Lisa! It's always nice to teach a class, and WS is so easy that people figure it out right away. You're welcome to print out whatever you want from WinterSown.Org. I suggest you tell the class to bring empty clean milkjugs, salad containers, soil, and you bring seeds, tape, knife scissors and printouts. Bring some bags and coarboard boxes so everyone can take their containers home easily. Do NOT do watering of the containers at the site, but instead tell people for this occasion to bottom soak the containers at home. At the class talk about WSing principles, seed saving, sowing seeds, soltice sowing, and natural germination, etc--it's your class so make it your own and do it as you feel is important. For seed sowing help them make their containers, rub in their seeds and seal the containers. Don't forget to vent. It sounds harder than it is, the bulk of the work is in the preparation, but otherwise it's a fun class to teach and goes quickly. T

Thank-you all for your input! Most of my seeds are probably similar in type to jimbobfeeny's. I have spicebush (Lindera benzoin), Magnolias (tripetala, asheii etc), milkweeds, clethra, calycanthus etc etc. Mostly seeds of trees/plants native to northeastern forests and "most" of these things require some sort of stratification. Interestingly enough I sowed some seeds in early Sept and the only ones that have germinated are a couple of spicies and, weirdly, a couple of magnolias! However, it has been very cold and I live at the top of a mountain so I'm sort of in a microclimate...10 degrees colder up here than at the bottom of the mountain. I think I've also probably created too many ventilation holes as my pots all dry out fast...I water about every 3 days...is this normal? As for the asclepias, I wanted to mix the asclepias in a "wild" bed. I could have cleared the ground but the butterflies seem to love the dogbane and other flowers already established there. I thought if I grew the milkweed in containers I might give it a better chance to grow and thus it might have a better chance in competing w/already established species? Does this make sense? I did scatter some A. tuberosa seeds around just before Sandy arrived so they got a darned good soaking...probably got washed away :( Please give me some feedback...does anyone else ws mostly natives?

Ponce, thank you for the laughs! I'm still smiling about the coffee cup!

Nothing is left to plant out... really! Today I sowed five kinds of basil, two kinds of zinnias and red perilla. Those were the last things on my list, except for the veggies that will be direct sown later on.

I'm not saying that seeds packets won't accidently fall into my cart at the store, but I won't be wintersowing them, not this year anyway.

My husband just drew up plans for the pergola that will go over the patio, which just happens to be where all of my wintersown containers are, so I'm seriously done. Everything will have to be moved, or planted out once he brings the materials home. This is a project that I have been looking forward to having done since last year, but I didn't take into consideration that it might happen before all my sprouts were planted out. Aaaaack!

Lucky you bonnie,Please let us see the project in action.I wish I had a pergola.My project is laying the stones for a patio and hopefully a hot tub this fall will find its way on the patio.
ponce,I also thank you for the laugh,maybe he needs to start considering building a "guest cottage" for his space..I saw that on tv and the husband finally added a H/A,a fireplace and a big flatscreen tv and it was called the doghouse..loved it..and so did he..lol

I'm not committing to ANYTHING. I have more...and when those are done, there will STILL be more...they arrive at my house through osmosis, I think.
When I *think* I'm done, there will still be more that I'll find, and go "shoot!"
But I'll have plenty. There will be plenty.
And I will be happy.

I wish I could say no to more WS/Spring sowing, whatever! I have about 100 more varieties that I want to sow this week and then I think I'm done for now...

LOL Ponce, isn't it annoying when life interfere's with our winter-sowing?! (not including gardening in that, since it's part of the same obsession hehe)

Still have the following left to sow -

These 3 vines are supposed to attract hummingbirds. I'm hoping to grow them together up the same trellis (that's the idea). Not sure, but it's possible I can direct sow these?

Ok...I lied.

I did the dwarf white Cosmos, and skipped the Morning Glory. Lord knows I'll probably have enuff babies popping up on their own! Instead I did some of my Nicotiana alata (white) that usually self-sows on it's own, but never enough. Then last I did the rest of some 2006 harvested Purple Majesty Millet. They came ok last year and were purple, but never exceeded 8" in height! I GOTTA try this again! LOL!

That adds to extras to the list :D

Vera: Are your dwarf cosmos as fragrant as the tall? I only tried the dwarfs once and they weren't fragrant at all. I did sow 1 jug of nic. alata, to have in a pot on my front porch, only for their fragrance. I always get a million volunteers so I will probably give away most of what's in the jug after I get some for the pot.

I suspect I won't completely stop until August when I attempt a fall crop of spinach (last year I didn't get them going soon enough). In the next week I plan to sow various zinnias and some more basil. Eventually I plan to do some more dill, cilantro, and maybe sunflower. I don't know if some of these are futile when it gets too hot, but I guess I'll experiment.

I was organizing my seed box the other day (because I had to get a new BIGGER one) and discovered all sorts of cool things I had forgotten about. But I think those will have to wait until next year.

I got these dwarfs in trade and I'll be dipped in batter if I can remember who from! I have a bunch in my database that don't have a traders name and I'm betting they all came from the same person. I assume these dwarfs are of the species C. sonata and if they are they'll probably be about 2'.
As for fragrance of cosmos, I've never came across a fragrant one yet. What kind do you have that is? I'd like to know LOL!

ooooo ooooo check it out! I just had to open up another winter and search google for "fragrant cosmos" and found this thread titled "What do primroses smell like?????" and someone brought up something called Cosmos atrosanguineus (Chocolate Cosmos)!!!! I posted the link to the thread. Now this I gotta have :D

Vera, I have no idea what I had. This was many, many years ago. I might have bought a couple of plants, as well as a pack of seeds which I direct sowed around them. They were very tall and didn't stand a chance in our rain and wind, and were constantly knocked down. All those flimsy stems were impossible to stake up. I thought they were fragrant, but maybe my memory is wrong! That was probably nearly 20 years ago.

Last year I WSed the dwarf (cosmic?) cosmos, about a foot tall, in yellow and orange. They were great little plants, but no fragrance. I have volunteers coming up in that bed and well as saved seeds sown in jugs.

Lol, my husband's not too excited about dirt in the sink or cups/containers of dirt on the counter. Men are so picky aren't they? ;)

I don't have much else to sow, other than vegetables direct sown. I sowed some zinnias a couple days ago. I was showing such restraint, until ... I got an uncontrollable urge today to order Chinese Red Noodle Bean and Wonderberry 'Solanum Burbankii' from Baker Creek. I'm really excited about those varieties. I will probably sow the Wonderberry in a container, as it's my understanding the seeds are quite tiny. I may direct sow a few as well.

I also bought some Heirloom Golden Bantam Corn and some Peaches and Cream corn from a local seed store today. I've got five varieties of corn with not much space. I guess I'll just need to do five short rows :)
