The unheated porch should work fine. I pot them up and keep them in my unheated garage, moving them outdoors during warm days. I only plant them into the garden when the danger of frost at night is past. This has always worked fine, and even ones that I thought I lost (such as some trillium which had weak top growth in the package which withered after potting, showed up healthy in the garden a year later.

I don't grow grapes but know people who do successfully grow them in this part of the country. Three varieties that seem to do especially well for the home gardeners I know are Himrod, Flame and Mars. I do pay attention to the OSU recommendations for fruit and pecan varieties (and veggies as well) but I do not always follow them. I pay just as much attention to the Texas A&M recommendations because I am more familiar with them, having lived in Texas for more than twice as long as I've lived here so far....so I already had grown some of those varieties for years before moving here, and continue to grow them here. I am not certain how often OSU updates their recommendations as they don't seem to have changed all that much since we moved here in 1999, and some of the varieties they recommend, I've never been able to find in any retail store. I have found some of them available from online retailers. I'm pretty picky about the fruit varieties I grow, but with stone fruit, for example, my main criteria is chill hours. I try not to stray from varieties whose chill hours are not adequate for our part of the country. I'm going to link a Texas nursery that tends to have the varieties of fruits and nuts that are recommended for this part of the USA. It is one of my favorite online sources. Womack Nursery I don't think that the average big box retailer pays enough attention to carrying the types of fruit trees, berries and grapes that are recommended for this part of the country. I have had better luck finding the right varieties in actual nurseries as opposed to big box store garden centers. Some farm stores like TSC and Atwood's do a really good job of carrying the right varieties too. Sometimes I can find the right varieties at a store like Lowe's or Home Depot (and more often at the Lowe's near me than at the Home Depot near me), but they often have varieties I've never heard of mixed in with the ones I'm looking for, so sometimes you really have to hunt for the right ones. 15 years ago I ordered 3 types of sweet seedless grape vine varieties (green, red, and purple, one of which was Reliance). All 3 were supposed to be good for Zone 7, and they did grow well here. But my production was very poor. Apparently growing seedless here in our humid conditions does require upkeep with fungicides of which i did not want to do. The clusters looked good but were sour and required more vine time to sweeten up which lead to fungal problems. I suspect that the varieties I planted were more suitable for a drier Z-7 climate like California. Va may be good for wine grape growing and seeded types like Concord?
