yup, here too. And of course the sprinkler system that I paid an arm and a leg for is not ON yet, so I am running around with a hose every couple of hours try to keep all the newly planted sprouts moist and happy.

I've got a terrible sunburn on the back of my neck. Last week I was wearing wool sweaters. It sure is odd prof!!!

Hear ya on running around with watering can to keep sprouts moist. After an hour or two the ground's already dry.

The seeds, corn and whole grain bread I put out early this morning (breakfast) for the birds and squirrels (by default) sat there until about half an hour ago when it cooled down just a bit. Now everyone's fighting over the food.

I took a 3 hour break and I'm sitting here trying to get myself to put my dirty gardening clothes on again but don't want to go back out there.

Really twisted that I was whining about all the rain and cold so recently.

I've got to get some Fall clearance plants into their permanent homes like yesterday since they're already flowering in original pots. I'm going to use the idea another member posted on some thread... fill a zip-lock back with water, freeze, prick holes in one side and then lay around newly planted things. It'll weep water as it melts. Unless the deer step on it during the night or some other creature has a gnaw at it and it bursts...LOL.

Ahh..the pleasures of the south shore in springtime.

We hit 82 at mid-morning, and the warming land mass caused the breezes to turn to onshore, which brought us back to low 70's by noon. Cool humid breezes bathed the garden with perfect weather all afternoon. A glorious day outside! I got in nearly 10 hours of productive work. I'm pooped, but will shortly indulge in oven-fried Haddock, with Chive Pesto. A bit of cheap Merlot, and a comfy recliner....that's all I need!

donn: Alright! That's enough of that! This thread is for everybody who's suddenly melting and are ready for a cool spell. This "bathed the garden with perfect weather..." stuff has to go, OK? I couldn't even muster the energy to get in the hot tub and it's set at 80 degrees. ;-)

Yeah, Don, that's enough. It was hotter than blazes today in MA too. Near 90 inland and I've had enough already.

Finally starting to cool down though tonight. Cooler temps for Monday, then way back up near 90 on Tuesday, before returning to normal temps of high's in the mid 60's and low's in the 40's.

Agreed -- this was too much too fast. I wanted to get SO MUCH DONE this weekend, and all I did was prune the butterfly bushes and mow the lawn. (and get a sunburn...) Didn't plant out a thing, so hopefully the bigger ones will survive one more week. And we have two more days to 90+ record-breaking weather. I love the heat, and I love the sun, but going from frost to this so fast is literally painful!

You won't hear us in NC complaining about this weather. It's like this every year for us. We don't get no cooling breezes or "normal" temperatures. These are normal. And the rain tapers off to maybe once a week. And then finally, it gets really warm in August. Like standing up against a brick wall in summer warm. Meh.

Okay, take your pick. We have had three days of rain with evenings clinging to freezing and days in the 40's. Two more days of rain are scheduled with slightly higher temperatures. A day of 80 with no rain looks good right now.
At least I don't have to water the 90 milk jugs that have not sprouted yet!

Had a right gorgeous day here. The sun was in and out and the breeze from the ocean kept things a cool 18C which is warm for this time of year.

Started cleaning on of the gardens and found some plants hadn't made it. Culled others which I decided weren't cutting it. Gave the rest a bit of bone meal, alfalfa pellets and off they all go for the season. I'll mulch later this week. I was going to do that too but was hit with the news that a good friend passed away this morning.

It's snowing. Hard. And sticking.

These past two days were heaven in my garden! Don't know when I've ever been so happy! So many sprouts! So warm! My favorite weather! Yes, it was hot over 90, they say. But it wasn't that humid. In a month or two Brooklyn NY can be really terrible, sticky hot. But I hate the cold so much that I long ago promised myself never to complain about the heat.
I worked about 12 hours both days. Getting containers ready for tomatoes, planting out seedlings, cleaning up the mess for company coming for a barbaque, smelling my two big happy blooming lilacs over and over...carrying water.
I really don't want to go to work tomorrow! Sorry so many of you found it rough!

Agh! Prof, I'm with you! I never thought I would say this, being a transplanted Floridian, but I cannot stand the hot weather! Not this hot, this early, anyway. It's one thing to be sitting pool-side with a nice little umbrella drink, and quite another to be out in the NC garden, sweating your face off. LOL (Token, I'm complaining! :))

My AC is cranking, non-stop!

It's just *pant* too hot to enjoy this weather. Too dry. And way WAY WAY too windy for 3-4 days now: 20-30 mph with higher gusts. Everything has to be staked, clamped, weighted, roped, screwed or sat on to keep from blowing away. Did I mention the very VERY VERY low humidity? (Like 20-23%!) So with the dry wind there is the watering, the misting, the shading, the, well, you get the picture. Plant stuff out? You GOTTA be kidding. My babies are staying right in their playpens until Mom Nature stops pitching a fit! Tomorrow it's only supposed to get up to 70. And some rain (only 30%) maybe, but I'll take whatever we can get. It's sooo hot. What? Turn on the A/C in April? I refuse. I just *sob* refuse.

Talk about too much heat -- 7yo had a nosebleed for the first time in her life. Poor thing.

Another perfect day! Temps in the mid-60's with gentle breezes off the water and brilliant sunshine. The neighborhood was quiet with the little urchins back in school and the only sounds were birdsongs and wind-rustled Bamboo.

I just love to garden on days like this!

rosebush: I think it's the fact that it came on so suddenly and strong. I wasn't ready for it--70-80's yes, but 90's in three days is just too much.

I'm with you about the pool and little "something." When you know it's here, it's one thing; to be totally caught off guard is another.

And, Donn: I have a piece of bamboo for you. It hasn't been rustling in the wind, but it will still make you a good "stand." ;-)

Donn, you're killing me! :) Stop gloating already.

Prof, I hear ya! For the last couple of monthss, the temps have been so unpredictable, and going from 40 to 89 is just too much, too soon. The garden has jumped from puny to lush in a matter of days. Unfortunately, so have the weeds! :( Rain in the extended forecast should help cool things down a bit.

Saturday (88°) and Sunday (92° - new record for us, for the date) were glorious days - very high temps, but everything else was working to make it comfortable. Got a lot done on the balcony; still a mess, but better. Lots of new sprouts.

Monday - another story; cooler temp-wise, but uncomfortable. Probably had more to do with the fact that I had to go to work.

Today my allergies are in high gear.

makin me cry I'm laughing so hard. Temps here will very soon be in 90+ range. But that's nothing... June hits and it's 100+! I really hate hot weather too but can't afford to move again.

Right now thank goodness this week looks like mid 60's. Baby plants all over, hoping they grow a little more before the coming heat.

It has been beautiful here the past few days,but too hot for tender seedlings and old widowed women. I sat some plants out by the front door (purchased plants, WS seedlings, and bulbs that didn't quite get the care they needed during their stay in the garage over winter)and to my dismay, or shock, when I stepped outside they all looked like they had been plopped down in the middle of the Sahara Desert not the middle of the Appalachian Mountains!

It's hot. And let me add, I am one that has been whining about how cold it has been lately. So we go from what felt like freezing to this?? They are calling for rain/thunderstorms starting Wednesday, and that is fine by me. I only wish I had my plants out in the garden before then, but doubt it.

Somebody pass me the Pina Colada, or Margarita, or whatever the popular beach/hot weather drink is!

All of us retirees should get together and charter a bus to Donn's for a garden tour. He's a pretty fancy cook too, so the chow should be as good as the show.

Funny: I started working outside today at 7:00 laying in the new raised bed and adding edging all around. You know, the measure, cut, dig trench, make sure it's lined up stuff. Took a breather around 10:30. It was 90 here today.

Neighbor pops in and says: "What, you lounging?"

"Lounging??? I've been out here since early morning shoveling and doing all kinds of stuff. Man, I'm beat and it's not even noon."

"Wuss. You corporate types kill me. Try being a HVAC tech putting a new AC on a roof when it's this hot."

"Well, then, get your happy butt up on a roof somewhere and make some money!"

"It's too hot. We only work when it's 85 degrees or less."

I live in North Dakota. The snow melted but we're still supposed to have highs in the 40s for the next week or so. It's so WET here, I think we could use some really hot weather. I garden in a community plot on base so I can't get in and start using it until they get around to plowing... and right now the ground is like clay.

You all need to send about 20 or 30 degrees of your heat my way.

Donn, you've described paradise to many people and not just jealous gardeners...LOL. Enjoy it.

It's raining lightly and supposed to be in mid-50s today with a little rise in temps next couple of days so it's time to plant, plant and plant some more while the planting's good.

I'm sure you'll be thrilled to have the little urchins replaced by big urchins pulling up in something like a 60s psychedelic VW van...ROFL. Got a big stock of base for that pesto in the freezer?

Really, enjoy your place and the weather with which you're you're blessed. By the way, was it you planting a myriad of bulbs(beyond hundreds) some time ago? If I'm remembering correctly (questionable) they must have looked just amazing.

One thing about that heat...
It followed a nice soaking rain the day before, here. So after the rain and then the heat, the seedlings I had transplanted were in heaven...they were greener and bigger by the end of the weekend. The ones still in containers enjoyed it too!
Me, I enjoyed it until the black flies (who I thought didn't get here until the end of May) started coming after me. As hot as it was here up north by the lake, I was glad I wasn't in Syracuse.
