Peebee: I have the impression that your concern is that cross-pollination of your Anna with the sour, tasteless apple might negatively affect the apples of your Anna. You can relax. No matter the source of pollen that reaches your Anna blooms, the apples will be Anna in flavor and in every other respect. However, the seeds of those apples, if planted, might produce a tree with sour, tasteless apples. The effect of cross pollination is always in the seeds of the seeds of the next generation. If your sour apple tree (probably a seedling itself) blooms in the same period as the Anna, it will help the Anna to set fruit, which is exactly what you want it to do. Don Yellman, Great Falls, VA

Nice farm. The rest of my response does not address the orginal post question, but may it still will be of interest. At least the owner of the house shown in the photo does not have a significant other who instists on painting the house an electric pink color. There is a small acerage not too far outside of my city limits where I pass by when driving to see my daughter in a neighboring town. On the property is built a rather large, modern appearing, yet still definately farm style house. which is painted an electric pink color with white trim. Still, the barn and other farm implement sheds on the property are as red as the farm structure shown in your photo. It leads me to think that there probably are two distinctively different personalities living together on that property. The electric pink house and all the red barns and other buildings can be seen by anyone simply driving past the property. When ever I drive by and am drawn to look, at the property and buildings, it often makes me wonder if the farmer is the one with the more moderate personality, but has compromised with a significant other and agreed to the house being painted that seemingly excentric color. Then I cannot help but wonder, what other seemingly over the top items the farmer must have felt compelled to agree with, when it came to decorating the inside of the house. Good thing the occupants of that propety live on a farm, where city home owner's associations are not able to require their approval of the house paint color selection.

I'm in your area. Apples need a pollinator, so you'll want two. They do well here. Peaches don't need a pollinator. They tend to be prone to disease around here. Be sure to look for a disease-resistant variety. Cherries - do you want sweet or tart cherries, for eating fresh or for cooking? Most sweets need a pollinator, most tart cherries don't. I think it's best to order bare-root trees from a good nursery. Beware nurseries that don't tell you what the rootstock is. Beware the label "semi-dwarf" which mean in practice, too tall. Plan a doable spray schedule. Attempting to grow fruit around here w/o spraying will result in disappointment. Evanston has a large squirrel population. Peaches in particular are a target for them. Cherries are often attacked by birds.

I thought Cowra may be nearby but it is more northern, I think Nowra makes it confusing. I have read: The modern Japanese garden Japanese Gardens in a weekend, Japanese courtyard gardens, Creating Japanese gardens by Philip Cave Serene Gardens & The art of Japanese gardens. Our neighbour has a nice pinetree, not too tall that we can see in front of the mountain. We have papyrus in the original bed. Have seedling holly and access to some sacred bamboo. Have small amount of mondo grass. My hollyhocks can probably stay. We also have planted two camellias, one white small sasanqua with salmon pink back, and a Japanese variety in a yellowy shade which found relief from the sun in a area near the back of the shed. We will remove the poppies after they finish flowering, so the kids don't miss them. Are candy chime bulbs too loud too, or are they OK because they resemble grass?
