How awful! The only upside to a broken arm is that you won't have to do all that gift wrapping! I do hope your pain is lessening, luxrosa, and that by the time the holidays are here you'll be able to be jolly and enjoy the festivities.

I like your idea of filling in the missing photos for Vintage. Are you meaning to take photos of roses on Vintage's grounds? Sounds like a great project and a great help to Vintage and rose lover's everywhere! Thank you for your efforts and ideas.

Oh, what a shame. I broke my wrist two days before Thanksgiving four years ago - had the cast on until after New Year's. Had to rethink what I do for the holidays. Couldn't even wrap presents, so had to ask for help to do just about everything, and discovered that it was more fun to do things with others, anyway (and that it was ok to jettison some of the holiday rigamarole). I cut the toe off a Christmas sock and wore it as a cast cover and everybody congratulated me on my positive attitude. Once the cast was off, I was ready to resume my life and my rose pruning, and that's when my good attitude went sour. While I did fully recover, it takes some time to get strength and mobility back. It was months before I had my grip back and full range of motion. Mine was a simple break, no surgery required. Hope that you heal just as well, but be prepared that recovery will take longer than the time that the cast is on. I'd never before had a broken bone and I had no idea.

Your idea of adding rose photos is excellent. In fact, I was just looking at Vintage's site, thinking "I have photos of a few of these roses." Never occurred to me that I could help! If we do get something going about adding photos, I'll certainly contribute, although I probably don't have many.

Luxrosa, you have my sympathy and best wishes for a speedy and thorough recovery. That's a tough injury to carry into the holidays, but I'd bet you'll be in shape to prune your roses in 2009. It's a great time to read and there are some dynamite books you can ask for from Santa. The Naming of the Rose has photos by Paul Barden and is a beautifully crafted book. Stephen Scanniello's book comes out in February and will be worth the wait!

As far as Vintage's website and the photos are concerned, I'm wondering if there are missing photos because of the cost of website storage. Vintage's collection is so extensive that they may have to pick and choose to stay within proscribed parameters. If not, it would be fabulous to have a photo for every rose. Wow!

Luxrosa, so very sorry about your accident. A few days before Thanksgiving last year, I slipped on a broken feed bucket handle in my horse barn and shattered my kneecap, had surgery the day before Thanksgiving. Was totally down....it was miserable. I had to lie down most of day and elevate leg, for an active person like me, it was worse than awful. Like Anita said......healing takes longer than you think, but with broken arm and it not in a joint, you will probably be pruning roses before you know it. I am having pins taken out of knee in January so dread that.....and it is not strong and I tend to trip if I am not real careful [slipped and fell down on tile floor the other day thanks to wet socks, luckily, just my feelings were hurt]. I too have never had a broken bone and sure have empathy for people who have mobility problems now! Take care of yourself and you will be better in no time.

I love your idea about the photos........I have to go to helpmefind to get many of the photos....I will be glad to contribute any that are needed. Have been on a Vintage binge.....am on my 4th order this fall so hope to have some photos of some of their unusual roses next spring.

So sorry about the arm, Lux! I had a fall recently when in Berkeley with Luanne. Luckily, I did not break anything. I guess this is the time of year for falls. I hope your recovery is speedy and pain free.

I spoke with Gregg at the last Dirt Day and he seems open to help with the website photos. I also asked him whether he had considered two photos per rose--one full bush shot and one bloom. He said there were no issues with the loading of an extra photo and is thinking about this as well. Why don't you email him directly? I think he will be grateful for the help.
