I just bought a Graham Thomas from Chamblees while my husband is away at the Saints game.

Tell us about the magnificent spot you have picked out for it.

So what does a ticket cost these days? I have Angel Stadium and the Honda center 15 minutes away but the ticket for a game is so expensive. I could get a nice rose order for the price of a stadium seat.

Your mantel is absolutely lovely, very elegant looking! I so love that quail, he's on my "eBay hunt list"! Wow, the new pup (teenager) did a LOT of traveling to get to you, but he sure looks like he's right at home. What a lucky dog. He is beautiful. I had friends who showed Brittanys and boy, those are some high energy dogs! Make my Whippets look lazy. LOL. So I can imagine all the "help" this one was. Linda, maybe a drop scone would be easy, no cupcake tin needed. Cinnamon Bun Scones 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 cup Quaker® Oats (Quick or Old Fashioned, uncooked) 1/2 CUP granulated sugar 1 tablespoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 8 tablespoons butter or margarine, chilled and cut into pieces 3/4 cup whole or 2% milk 1 egg, lightly beaten 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 cup toasted, chopped pecans 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon GLAZE 3/4 cup powdered sugar 3 teaspoons orange juice or milk, or as needed Recipe DIRECTIONS: Heat oven to 425 degrees F. Spray cookie sheet with cooking spray. In large bowl, combine flour, oats, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, baking powder and salt; mix well. Cut in butter with pastry blender or two knives until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In small bowl, combine milk, egg and vanilla; blend well. Add to dry ingredients all at once; stir with fork or rubber spatula until dry ingredients are moistened. In small bowl, combine remaining 2 tablespoons granulated sugar with the pecans and cinnamon; mix well. Sprinkle evenly over dough in bowl; gently stir batter to swirl in cinnamon mixture (Do not blend completely.) Drop dough by 1/4 cupfuls 2 inches apart on cookie sheet. Bake 11 to 13 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to wire rack; cool 5 minutes. In small bowl, combine powdered sugar and enough orange juice for desired consistency; mix until smooth. Drizzle over top of warm scones. Serve warm. Here's a couple of other ideas... Bonus Muffins 4 bananas, very ripe 1 C. canned pumpkin 3 large eggs 1 C. superfine sugar 1/2 C. brown sugar 2 tsp pure vanilla 1 C. oil 2 1/2 C. unbleached flour 2 C. old fashioned oatmeal 1 T. baking soda 2 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. allspice 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice 1/4 tsp. sea salt 1 1/2 C. nuts, chopped 1 C. raisins topping Puree bananas and place into a large mixing bowl. Add pumpkin, eggs, sugars and vanilla. Mix well and add oil. Add remaining dry ingredients, mixing until evenly blended. Stir in nuts and raisins. Grease muffin tins and dill 1/2 full with batter. Sprinkle with topping and bake at 350 degrees F. for about 30 minutes or until done. Remove to cool on wire racks. TOPPING\- 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 tablespoon flour, 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice and 2 tablespoons butter. Mix well until very crumbly. MAPLE-OATMEAL SCONES 2 cups all purpose flour 1/4 cup sugar 2 tsp cream of tartar 3/4 tsp baking soda ½ cup butter ½ cup quick-cooking rolled oats ½ cup B&R Farms Dried Apricots 2 eggs 2 tbsp maple syrup 1 tbsp milk 1 tsp maple syrup 1 tsp milk In a large mixing bowl, stir together flour, sugar, cream of tartar, and baking soda. Using a pastry blender, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in rolled oats and B&R Farms dried apricots. Make a well in the center of the dry mixture. In a small mixing bowl, combine eggs, 2 tablespoons maple syrup, and 1 tablespoon milk. Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture and stir just until moistened. Form dough into a ball (dough may be sticky.) Transfer dough to a cookie sheet. Roll or pat with lightly floured hands into a circle, 3/4 inch thick and about 7 inches in diameter. Cut into 6 to 8 wedges (do not separate wedges). Brush scones with mixture of 1 teaspoon maple syrup and 1 teaspoon milk. Bake in 400 degree oven for 15 minutes or until golden. Serve warm, with additional maple syrup, if desired. Makes 6 to 8 scones. I also have a recipe for Carrot Bread that I've made for years and when we had the deli I made big batched of. You led me to believe there was a crisis but there is none. When you said that the kitchen was dark, I thought you were using a very dark grey. This is not dark grey. As long as the room is light and pleasant and functional in different light situations, there's no problem. Light can be introduced in different ways, including sconces and countertop lamps and more wattage in lighbulbs. If you find the paint needs to be lightened to an even lighter grey, you can always do that with some more paint. You have no urgent need to do any changes for a while. An inspiration picture is for inspiration, not for dictatorship. Go in peace.

Yes, I meant to communicate "stupid things" I've done in my old house. Otherwise, I would quickly reach the limit with postings. There is a reason I now always have a spray bottle of water next to me as I heat gun. Heat guns get hot. Former owners may have filled holes with rags. The combination is frightening. I think one of the stupidest things I've done is to explore new skills on the front of the house. I just wanted the house to look better from the street so I dove into the stripping and painting process. I don't think many people would notice the areas that bother me. I now know I should have learned on a less visible area of the house. Sharon, how long will it takes for these errors to become charming? Maybe I'll start calling these blunders future charm. That's a great barn and I love the "mistake". I also collect "stuff" that we, or others, may find useful. I have stacks of old windows with great glass in them. I do harvest the glass for windows I am working on, but there is far more than I will ever need. I have doors, maybe 20 deep, leaning against the wall in my barn. I couldn't have them go to the dump or get burned. I have probably salvaged enough doorknobs to furnish my street. As part of an old house group, my husband and I were given a chance to strip three old houses destined to be torn down. A new science building would replace them. It was as if an addicted person was placed at the source. These items will all be offered for donation to benefit the organization. I will make the appropriate donation for the things I need. Unfortunately, I am also making donations for things I might need. After you walk past all the doors and windows you won't even notice the other items. The junk men know my name and I have their phone numbers. Sometimes I just find things next to my gate. Instead of becoming the old lady with all of the cats, I will be the one with all of the house parts. Anyone remember the movie "Burnt Offerings"? My husband is sure I'll be moving up to the attic. He's wrong. I prefer the loft in the barn.

Kitty, all I know about tickets is that they are very expensive. We're still broke grad students and I don't like going to the Dome in any case. It's unbelievably loud, the beer is way too expensive, and I really need an announcer to tell me what is going on. My husband runs film for the camera guys when we have home games so he can be on the sidelines for free. He's working his butt off, and I'm on my duff spending money.

As for the prime rose spot, I'm going to dig up the plumeria I planted by the kitchen door and plant ol' Graham there. I think I'll peg him over the door. I can stash the plumeria in the garage so I don't have these weird, leafless protrusions right by the walkway. I'll definitely post some pictures when I've got something worth looking at.

Instead you could be gambling away the family budget while your husband's back is turned, or drinking it up in a bar. There are a lot worse ways of spending money than buying a plant. Roses are an INVESTMENT: think of all that beauty you get as your return, and for such a moderate price.

Don't feel bad. Think of the money saved when you don't spend money to buy flowers as a gift or to bring to someone. If you grow them no spray, you are also helping bees and the planet. A vase of GT is a beautiful gift. Who wouldn't love that color?

I was expecting something terribly dire, and this is all you have to confess? If you'd bought 100 roses while hubby was at the game that might have given me pause, but all you've done is to put some anticipation and then gratification into your life; it's all good!

Uugh! I wish I could get Clematis to grow. Jackie, that looks so, so good. Does Clematis like it a little dry? I know NO doesn't get any hotter than anywhere else in the south or midwest in the summer, but they've promptly bitten the dust every time I've tried them.

Sherry, it's called retail therapy, and it's a powerful thing. The added benefit of buying plants is that you HAVE to go outside and get some sun and exercise.

I googled clematis and humidity, and here is a web site that has an article about clematis, and a list of those types which like to grow in warm humid climates:

They like the same amount of sun as roses do, like good drainage like roses, also. The main difference is that they like their roots cooler, but a good layer of mulch solves that. Evenie - I would recommend you try again. They do take 2-3 years to get established.

Evenie, Clematis viticella is the best clematis hybrid for heat and humidity. It is wiltproof. This is my favorite, Venosa Violacea (I have two). There are more pics on my blog. I think I have about 15 clematis vines, most of them doing very well though young. Clematis texensis is the other foolproof hybrid for our climate. Each of these hybrids have many varieties. Check out Brushwood Nursery's website.

Clematis work for me when I plant them under climbing roses then plant other perinnials at the base of the rose that keep the roots of the clematis in the shade.

Here's New Dawn with Jackmanii. You can see the Becky shasta daisy in front. Also in there is a Rosanne geranium and a false indigo.
