Drought in central New Jersey - Summer 2010

Central New Jersey has, among other places, suffered through a brutally hot (for the area) and quite dry summer this year. In early July many places reached within 2-3 degrees of their all-time record highs, and rainfall has been well below normal (50% or less since June 1). I thought I'd share some pictures showing the results. These were all taken last Friday, August 20th:

This first set was taken in southern Somerset County, mainly, and mainly in cultivated areas.

This second set was taken at a local nature preserve in northern Mercer County, so in general the land is in a natural or mostly natural state.

I'm *fairly* certain that all of the browning depicted is due to the drought and not any disease or insect pests.
