Fragrant yellow roses for cutting
Comments (23)Thank you very much for your interesting suggestions. I will remember to look out for these roses this summer when I visit gardens and nurseries with big collections of modern roses. Interesting to see the parentage of some of these roses. Curlydoc - I really like the fragrance of Peace too - not strong but delicate. Interesting to see that it gets more pink hues in intense sun/or heat....See MoreCan you grow Clematis up into lavatera?
Comments (2)You certainly could, although in my climate it is recommended that tree mallow be pruned back hard each year in early spring. While the plant grows huge (and very rapidly at that), the stems really don't ripen into a real woody framework so the plant can be quite floppy and stems liable to break or split. I would think this is even more likely to happen if it was carrying the weight of a vine. In a hotter climate like yours, this may not be the case. btw, Lavatera is not considered a very long lived plant - about 5 years or so, so that might be another issue to keep in mind....See MoreSome flower portraits.
Comments (14)Your roses are exquisite and you are off to such a good start. I love the campanula in the first photo--it adds so much to the composition. Graham Thomas is luscious and healthy looking, too. Diane...See MoreGolden Celebration vs Graham Thomas
Comments (8)I have both here in SE Michigan, so not too far from you. At one time my GC was a good 12 feet tall on a trellis. Two polar winters and a cane gall brought that down to about 4 feet but it's still a good sized bush. GT is a bit smaller but not by much. They are both yellow but really two different shades. GC is golden, it has a bit of a bronzy cast to it. GT is a pure yellow with no other overtones. GC has a more cupped shape with more petals whereas GT will open more fully with fewer petals. Both of them tend to have nodding blooms. They both do black spot for me. Fragrance wise I'd say GC has the stronger fragrance but they both have the famous Austin smell. I love them both really because they do have differences. Golden Celebration Graham Thomas...See Moredublinbay z6 (KS)
