I still put a germination date for my own record. That way I will remember what sprouts best (and lives) at what time.

I would imagine it wouldn't take much more effort to jot a date down than it would to jot down "yes" or did I miss something? I've only been up on the computer since 3:30am :O

You bet I'm having a hectic spring. The weather has NOT been cooperating at all! In the past four weeks I have been in the ER twice and hubby has had major surgery, after which, I promptly fainted. (What the heck is up with THAT??)

I think during this time, some of my containers have dried out. I'm just hoping that I get a few sprouts to live.... I really don't want this year to be a bust!

Yes, I do have w/s spread sheet... but no, I haven't seen it weeks!!

I'm still keep count of the containers sown, and everything that I had seeds for is on a master list - but that's it. No more records of what's sown when. And I didn't even attempt to record what germinated when or when things got planted out.

I'll know I'm finished sowing when the seed box is empty, and I'll know I'm done planting out when the containers are all empty and put away. That's good enough for me.

I'm sort of curious how many containers I've planted out so far - but I think I'm just going to call it "lots" and figure that's close enough.

And next year I don't think I'm even going to be counting containers.

I'm with you on this year Linda, this has been one heck of a year for me too. I'm pretty much out of room in my yard, and this year I only WS'd 28 containers, compared to hundreds in previous years. Since starting in 2001, I no longer even keep track of what seeds I sow except to write on the outside of the container and the date sown. No more lists for me, (LOL, and I am a list person, God without lists for most things, I could not survive). So don't fret, I'm with you totally on this one.

Same with me, too much like homework!!! I felt rebellious when I decided not to record. :)

I agree it is useful to note what doesnt work, so you can rethink the plant next year tho.

I'm a list person too...so it's really a big deal for me to let go on this one. But that's how crazy it's been. Now, to top it all off, the vet thinks one of my cats has Diabetes...if I'm going to be giving my #1 Alpha Male cat, Gibson, insulin shots twice a day AND making sure the other cats don't eat his special food, I'll be lucky if I can get any plants into the ground!

I kind of asked myself, "How many times have you gone back to your own data sheets for info?" The answer...twice. It was for other people who wanted specifics and I just happened to have them. The month or a yes probably would have been just as good. And then, does it really matter when it sprouts as long as its before June??? (These are the questions I've been asking myself).

I had the best of intentions...I'm just realizing it isn't all that important for me anymore. --I do like having a list of what I've sown, though. I feel torn.

I have two research papers and two other projects along with lots of reading to do for the rest of the semester's daily classes. I have 2 1/2 to 4 weeks to get it all done, depending on which project we're speaking of. Not enough hours in the day!)

But I did notice that the Menocopsis Bentifolia sprouted (I might have to record THAT one, because it's new to me)

Oh well...I'll bite the bullet. If you don't see me on here, you'll know why...

I'm growing butterfly bush and ginko trees from seed. Yes, I have issues and like lists. No, I'm not using them. I even stopped recording what gets planted out when. It's going to work. If it sprouts, you watch the heat, you plant it in good dirt, it's going to grow. If chipmunks can grow plants from seed, I sure as heck can. And I finally don't mind that it will take another year to see some of them bloom. I have plenty that'll bloom this year.

Anything that hasn't sprouted by June 1 will have it's dirt scattered over a new bed I'll create somewhere. Maybe something will come up later. It might even be pretty after a couple years.

Spring is hectic, well, every spring is so this is no exception. With 2 jobs little time left for pleasure of gardening. Plus weather has not been cooperating- on those few rare days when I am off it is usually so nasty....
and no I do not keep any records, I have pretty good memory for what is important for me to know. I do not label very well either so part of the fun is to recognize what grows where... since my gardens are informal woodland type- it is no problem if plants get to choose where they want to grow....

Well after working on a project for work every spare waking minute since December, I'm now having a lot of time to myself and my gardens. Project at work is finished so now it's ME time, YAY!
So, I have to admit, this spring has not been hectic for me. Well not yet anyways.
Snow has finally melted this week so I've been running around cleaning off flower beds as best as I can before the spring rains start in.

If keeping data makes WS a turnoff then turn off the data keeping.

Twp weeks ago I was sitting on the front porch checking out my jugs w/ notebook in hand. I have 3 "pot gettos". I found myself flipping and flipping thru the pages to find the right dates. I was getting so aggrevaited I had to laugh at myself! Why was I putting myself thru this!!

Guess you could say my data keeping is over! Think I'll just note what works out well for me!!

It isn't about the data! It's about the results and we don't need a data sheet to show us that!

You know, I started a sheet back in 04/05 thinking I could use the information for the next year. The thing is... I never sow the same thing twice! My data sheet told me nothing. Then this year I started out thinking the same thing... some folks don't learn the lesson the first time around... duh!!

Sharing information is a great thing, but not if it's slowing me down from taking care of my W/Sing results that are sitting in a jug somewhere... gasping for a little room to grow in!
